Root Unable to download google maps in CM7

I searched high and low for a solution to my problem but have yet to find one

I'm very new to "modding" and successfully ( or so I thought) installed CyanogenMod 7 on my Desire...everything works except for the fact that i'm unable to download larger apps such as Google Maps and Angry Birds...can anyone help me figure out why this is happening?

How big is your /cache partition? 5MB?

I thought CM7 had a script in /system/etc/init.d called 06mountdl. Can you look in your rom zip file and confirm please?

If you havent got this script, go to the useful downloads link in my signature and find the scriopts section.

Download the scripts.zip and open (not extract) the zip. Navigate to /system/etc/init.d and delete the other 2 scripts, leaving just 06mountdl.

Close the zip with the x and flash it.

I've heard that this problem has to do with the cache on my sd card and i need to increase the partition, does that make sense?
I do have that file 06mountdl... what do I do with it?

ya i guessed that after i posted the msg :)
System cache total 40mb; free 3.88mb...

OK.

That free space needs to be bigger than what you want to download.

I assume the 06mountdl looks at the total size of the cache partition so lets forget about that.

What you need to do is boot into recovery and wipe cache (NOT dalvik cache - although this wont break anything).

What recovery have you got?

this is what i was told...does it make sense to u?

1. Backup SD Card
2. Partition your SD Card with Rom Manager (I used 512mb/64mb swap)
3. Install Simple2Ext (You can find it in the Android Market)
4. Open Simple2Ext and toggle on 'Download Cache'.
5. Now, reboot your Desire and you should be able to install Angry Birds/Maps/Other big apps.

//For this method you dont need to reflash.

Never use rom manager for anything.

This option is for people with very small cache partitions. This is not your problem. if it was your problem, you still wouldnt need to do that because you have 06mountdl in init.d that symlinks /cache/download to data/download if /cache is too small.

Forget all those steps there.

Your problem is your cache partition is full. We need to concentrate on emptying your cache partition

How many roms have you successfully flashed in the past?
Have you succesffully backed up in the past?
Are you s-off?
Do you own root explorer?

Ok I'm going to assume you rooted and checked your erase size as per up to date rooting guides. See signature. Need confirmation your erase size is 20000

If so, read the adb faq in my Sig too.

Set up your pc for adb. Go into adb shell and use the following commands

mount /cache
rmdir /cache/*
I have no idea what this means "Ok I'm going to assume you rooted and checked your erase size as per up to date rooting guides... Need confirmation your erase size is 20000"

can you direct me on checking my "erase size"?
Thanks again for all your patience sir, I know this must be very painful for you! :)
