Root Quick question - help! Camera button doesn't work!

I'm in the process of rooting my new X. I'm familiar with the navigation process for a D2 using the volume keys, camera key and power key. Is it the same for the DX? Whenever I try to choose an option in bootstrap using the camera key, nothing happens. The camera button works fine in using the camera function.

Am I doing something wrong?

I'm having a similar problem right now! My camera button will NOT select - reboot system now. Ugh. If it's ok to pull the battery I'll just do that and delete LPP and retry it but I'm not sure I can pull the battery now or not. I haven't made any system changes other than Droid Overclock and Z4 Mod.

It might be helpful for others if you post how you got it to work. It's unclear from "got it to work" whether the camera button simply started working in recovery or you took some steps to get it to work.

That doesn't work, either. I tried that but it looks like it just tries to put the screen to sleep. The same goes for the menu button, home button and back button. The search button does nothing.

Just to be clear. Are you in Clockwork Mod Recovery? The camera button is what you use in CWM. If it's not working, boot up and make sure that your camera button is working (pulls up the camera when you hold it down). Some people have made phone exchanges because of a defective camera button.

Edit: And just so you know I'm not contradicting myself. CWM and Factory Recovery are two different things. In factory, you use the power button to select. CWM, the camera button.

Just to help you guys out further and expand on what alprazolam has said. An easy way to tell which recovery you are in is looking at the color of the words. In clockwork recovery(bootstrap) the words will be green. In stock recovery the words will be blue.

I have had problems with my camera button but only while in LPP mode. A few times I've backed out of LPP and the button worked fine. I ended up pulling the battery and it rebooted normally - that was a concern of mine. Time to start playing more! (Hopefully I won't have to send back for a third DX, that would make the seventh for the wife and me...)

Update!
I pulled the battery and it rebooted normally. I used Launcher Pro to hop back over to the stock UI and the camera button STILL doesn't work. Which is weird because the last time I did that it DID work. Weird. Guess I need to remove Z4 Root, unroot my phone and get a new one. :-/

You're right...shoulda stated the solution.

I couldn't select any options in bootstrap with the camera button. I pulled the battery and restarted the phone. After the phone started, I played with the camera before going back into bootstrap. The camera worked fine. Went back into bootstrap and the camera button worked properly in selecting different options.

I just got the X this morning and immediately rooted. Maybe the camera wanted to be used first as a camera and not in bootstrap...I dunno.

Everything was stock Froyo when I began. I'm not running any sort of home screen replacement such as LPP. That might be the issue if it still doesn't work. Delete that and see if it fixes it.

Very interesting. I uninstalled LPP and tried the camera button again to no avail. I'm going to the mall for another replacement X.

A little off topic I know. But, could this be a factor in why people believe the DX has reached it EOL? They are in such mass production, mistakes are being made and more and more phones are going out with defects.

Yeah, I haven't been real happy with the build quality on these phones. Like I said in another post this will be phone 7 between the wife and myself.

I'm sorry that you guys have had so many issues. For the majority of us, this phone is as solid as can be and believe me when I say I'm not a Moto fanboi. I'll go with who has the most features on a phone at the time I buy it.

Hopefully you put it all back to stock and tested the camera button one more time. I'd hate for you to make unnecessary exchanges.

...and now mine doesn't work again. Unbelievable. It worked a couple of times yesterday when I got the phone and now nothing. It doesn't work in starting the camera, it doesn't work in taking a picture and it doesn't work in navigating in bootstrap.

I'm tired of these niggling problems...

Do a factory reset (settings->privacy) then SBF.
