evil.

Well, why not?

Seems like everyone has some expectations for 2.x but I will be realistic and want something that will offer GoogNAV and improved phone use. I have a feeling 2.x will just dissapoint us Eris users. I want some improvement to the current system to were I can use my phone without lag or type without waiting for it to catch up, and in the middle of all that, messing up what I typed. If your phone, could have GoogNAV, Sense UI, and performance improvements, wouldn't you want 1.6 instead? You can have most of the things many of you want badly from 2.x, so why not?

Just something to spice things up. :D

1. Google Nav is not in 1.6

Google Nav is ONLY available on Android 2.0 and higher.

2. HTC and Verizon have already confirmed, on paper, that the Eris is getting Android 2.0/2.1 First quarter 2010. For anyone to think we are getting anything else is silly.

3. It is possible to get for all you wished for in 2.0/2.1 Why wouldn't it be?

1. Google Nav is actually on 1.6 and higher. Looks like you're wrong!

2. 1.6 might actually run faster on the Eris than 2.x. We don't know and im sorry but you cant compare the Eris and the Hero with the rooted ROMs.

3. If HTC says 2.x will be on the Eris... well you did buy the phone just trust them...

PS. 1.6 and ROOT is all we need... but why not 2.x... :D

Yeah root would be the only way to know if 2.x would be any better or worse. Still waiting for root contest for our phones. I was pretty sure that It was common knowledge that goognav was in 1.6 too? Good thing I made this thread. LOL he so got served.

They had sense built for the Hero and the build for Hero was done before 1.6 was released (15 Sep), I don't believe their is a version of Sense running on 1.6 (could be wrong for sure). The 2.0 SDK was released 26 Oct, why would they bother with 1.6 when they could focus on 2.0+.

I get your point. Wonder when the G1 folks will get their update? I read somewhere they had to modify the size to fit. Their small RAM.

I printed this page out on paper ;)

http://www.informationweek.com/blog...l;jsessionid=4RQ0FH3P2G2XPQE1GHPSKH4ATMY32JVN

Specifically this part:

Today Verizon said that that the HTC Droid Eris, Verizon's other Android phone, will receive a major software overhaul in the first quarter of 2010. Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney said, "The Droid Eris currently using Android 1.5, can and will be upgraded to newer a Android operating system software in first quarter 2010. The enhancement will allow customers to continue to enjoy the powerful HTC Sense experience while also gaining the additional benefits of Google Maps Navigation."

When asked to clarify exactly which version of Android the Droid Eris will get, Raney explained that, based on the timing, the Droid Eris will be updated to either Android 2.0 or 2.1. We know that Android 2.0 brings some serious platform improvements to Android, but right now we know little about Android 2.1.

well they need to get the ball rolling. my eris keeps crashing since the latest OTA update

Mine too. I never had a "screen freezeing" issue until they released the OTA update to fix the freezeing issue I was not having and now the damn thing has frozen 3 times (pop battery) since. Not too bad, and I am not wishing I had my razr back or my wife's env3, but still was not an issue before. Will nuke and pave with 2.X when we get it :).
