Help Cannot get music on my HTC Desire!!!

I am having serious problems with this phone!!!

I have just changed from an iPhone to the HTC Desire and want to put music onto the phone.

I have all my MP3 files in folders on my PC HDD. So for example, I have a folder called AC/DC, in that folder I have a folder called Back in Black and in that folder I have all the MP3 files from the AC/DC Back in Black album. All me MP3 files are structured in this way.

I have created a folder on the Desire called "Music" and have dragged and dropped all the folders from my PC into this folder.

I find that the phone finds and plays the first 10-15 albums but ignores the rest. According to the memory information my 16GB SDCard now shows that a full 3GB has been used - so the files have been transferred.

When I look at the card on the PC the files are not showing on the card.

I have tried using HTC Sync and Double Twist and NOTHING works!!!!

I am seriously regretting losing my iPhone for this HTC model.

Should I be putting my MP3 in folders?
Should they be put in a folder called Music?

What am I doing wrong?

Please help if you can.

My bet is that the ones not showing up are in.WMA format, and are having trouble reading them?

All my music is structured exactly as you describe /SD/Music/<artist>/<album>/<MP3's> and all is picked up OK.

Where did you get the card? I'd be suspecting it's a fake - a smaller capacity card masquerading as 16GB.

Download H2TESTW to your PC and test the card. This will attempt to write to the full 16GB and then read it back. You will need to backup the contents first.

I love this phone but on the music front it cannot even compare to iPhone. All I want to do is put my music on it? What on earth is the problem?

Is it? Have you confirmed this? Where did you get it from?

In your situation, the first thing I would be doing is testing the card. Fake cards are normally cards of a smaller capacity that are rebadged to a high capacity, and bodged so that they report that high capacity and appear to accept data, but don't.

Your situation sounds just like this. You've copied files to the card, but when viewed on a PC some of them are not there.

All evening I have been trying to put these music files on the phone. The strange thing is that each time I try different albums appear on the phone - so there cannot be a problem with the music files.

Also, sometimes the last album (alphabetically - ZZ Top) appears on the phone but no albums between C and Z in the alphabet? The next time I try the ZZ Top album does not appear!!!

You can see why I am totally frustrated and pulling my hair out here.

The MicroSd card is a Kingston card BUT it was purchased from a market stall so maybe I need to try another card before I throw the phone at the wall and go buy an iPhone.

I LOVE this phone other than this horrific issue with the music.

I've noticed that if I stick a large number of mp3 on the sd card then they don't appear in the media player list immediately. I'd try waiting for 5 mins.

Try downloading "SD Rescan" from the market. Works sometimes to pick up files that weren't recognised during initial transfer.
