Help Offical Moment Update

how do i clear moxier? Ill try anything so it works.

from the home screen, menu -> settings -> exchange activesync -> account (the gear icon on the right) -> remove (lower right corner)

exit out of moxier, restart the phone, open moxier and it will prompt you like it did when you first set up the phone.

if that doesn't do it, may have to check with the exchange admin. I know it worked for me though.

Been reading here for a while....figured I'd join and post.

Just tried to get my phone updated at my local sprint store. I was the first one they had request it. After about an hour I left the store with a new phone still on CJ05. They bricked my original. As my replacement was being activated the employee helping me said that the techs were reading their email after bricking my phone and found an email telling them not to update any Moments due to several being bricked by the update.

there ya go, a confirmation from a user.. be careful guys

Ok theres a little BS to all of this bricking of phones.

A)Sprint is NOT emailing techs telling them not to do the update. I just took my sister to the service center to get the update and specifically asked if they have been told to not do it due to phones bricking. He laughed and said absolutely not and did the upgrade for her. Yes someone CAN brick the phone by doing what the tech who ran mine did and no reading instructions.

B) Only 1 person on Twitter has said the store turned him away. Everyone else just retweeted it.

So yeah if your phone gets bricked you get a new one but its not the update doing it, its the techs not following instructions.

Having just had the update done to my three Moment phones today, this is what I can say so far:

TIP #1
Make sure to back up all your apps and data prior to the upgrade. The upgrade will completely wipe your phone and when they hand it back to you, it will be like the day your first got it.

I used MYBACKUP from the market, which has a 30 day free trial. I may even buy it because the backup/restore was quick, accurate, and painless.

TIP #2
Find a tech who has done an upgrade before. Apparently, it is a bit tricky. The tech I had said the first one he did was a bear. With what he learned, my three were a snap. I read a similar comment in the forum regarding another poster who has the same experience, so I don't think I'd want to be the first upgrade the tech has done.

Wow. I hope this isn't the way it's going to be for the 2.1 upgrade coming in in 1Q, 2045... ;-?

Here's my experience so far with calling "service center" sprint stores:

1 - "We don't have the update yet" ...booooooo!
2 - "Oh you can do the update OTA!" to which I say "No you can't. Are you wearing a neon green helmet?" to which she says "Our tech will be in at 2 but I have SEEN the OTA update in person and done it myself" to which I add "No habla ingles puta".
3 - "Bring in the phone and leave it with us for a week" - A WEEK??!! SRSLY? OMGWTFBBQ!

This has been an enlightening expereince in regards to kernel updates and how badly executed this rollout has been. If you live AT the sprint headquarters, apparently you can get the update from the CEO himself. As for the rest of America outside of the Dust Bowl, the level of idiocy exponentially grows as you radiate outward towards the coasts. I live in CA, which would mean that Sprint tech's out here just stand around making grunting noises, eating corn and throwing their feces aginst the wall and calling it a "kernel update".

Jack-offs.

Idiocy, in general, does radiate from California. Perhaps you just hadn't noticed that before since you live there. I believe California is actually ancient Sanskrit for "Land of Stuck-Up Morons".

Guarantee it's because most techs have no idea what they are doing with this update. Maybe they said not to update because they are going to make it easier for any idiot tech person to do or they are just gonna have us wait for the OTA. It is know that a few phones have been bricked at Sprint stores and I'm sure it was the techs fault and not the actual update. ;)

Anyone who wants to set themselves up for disappointment in life should go on expecting that when something new comes out (like an update for the Moment) that thousands of people across the country who have never worked with it before (like all the Sprint store techs) will INSTANTLY know how to use it.

Anyone who works in tech help of any sort has to actually have a bit if time to learn new information when it comes out. They do not just walk into the office and get knowledge instantly downloaded into their brains. ;)

Expecting a tech to always instantly know what you want them to know about a brand new product? FAIL.

Well, it is now a confirmed no go. Here's what they told me at 5:30p she (the tech) just got the "okay" to download the update file to her computer. "It seems to be taking a long time to download so you can come back on Tuesday when I'm here again and we should be able to get you updated." Seriously? I'm ready to wash my hands of Spint in general. I realize that had I not been on this forum, I probably wouldn't even know about the update like the rest of the general public users but...the point is that an update was officially release by Sprint and 90% of their people we're ready for it.

Expecting a tech to know the product that he had been updated about the day before (at least) is a fail? A fail on his part for not reading before attempting to do it blindly, maybe. But a fail on the consumer's end?

Oh, don't get me wrong, if a tech bricks your phone because he doesn't follow the instructions he's been given that's a total FAIL on his part. I'm saying people expecting instant gratification on updates like many on here seem to is FAIL. As has been pointed out, lots of us on here are on the bleeding edge on this stuff. We have to learn a little patience sometimes, that's all I'm trying to say. ;)

The reason Zefie was able to release his stuff so much faster is because he doesn't have the constraint of having to have people beating it up testing it before he releases it. He tests it on his, releases it, and those if us using it give feedback. Before Sprint/Samsung release an update to the public they have to do all of that in house to make sure it works as advertised. That, very simply, takes time. Folks that are demanding to be on the bleeding edge should come on over to the Dark Side instead of waiting for "official" updates. :D

Well that makes me sound mean :(
Naa.. I will spell out the situation so no one gets confused....
CL14 SBL (Secondary Boot Loader) located in the bml2 partition on the phone does NOT allow odin 3.98 to communicate with the phone... Since ODIN isn't officially for the M900 Moment they don't care if cl14 breaks compatibility or not..
None of the developers at SDX (atleast from what i have seen) will risk the Sprint update, because the risk we can't reflash with ODIN means everything we have done and any future modifications will be worthless unless we find another method to flash... Thats what i ment by "your on your own"... because we arent going to be able to replicate and find new methods to flash until we understand the cl14 sbl more (we are waiting on it to be open source hopefully)

There are 3 versions of odin, right? is it confirmed that NONE will work?

Hello all.. been reading stuff in the forums for a while and using tips and have been using Zefie's kernals for a while.. (thanks a bunch Zefie, Numnus and all the other people that have contributed to that and all the other improvements to the Moment.)

Out of the box the Moment was a little disappointing to me.. but after Zefie's improvements and tips on apps and everything else.. it has become the phone that I thought it would be and I am really enjoying it.

My thoughts on the new CL14 update? I downloaded it from Zefie's page using Odin and it has been great. Haven't noticed much overall speed improvement (but I was already running the new kernals which had improved my speed already). I have noticed the fact that the keyboard lag is gone (yea!..that was annoying).. also noticed that I am no longer in Spain according to Google Maps (which means that I can finally use Places Directory, my movie finder, etc... that use my location to look up local things for me. Which was a big deal to me. I came from a Sanyo Katana DLX and Samsung Moment and used the Live Search all the time and was really disappointed that the Moment didn't have it. But the Places Directory App seems to be doing an OK job of replacing it now that the location function works.)

Don' like the black background on the calendar as someone mentioned before.. but oh well.

I've been running Panda Home and haven't had any problems with it. haven't had any problems with any of my downloads for that matter. *thank you to the developer of the Moment Flash... so surprised that it wasn't already out... one of the many little things that I use on a daily basis that makes being able to customize the phone so great!*

I have also found out that Opera Mini 4.2 (among other apps) is now working on the Moment... which I enjoyed using on my previous phones.. so we'll see how it goes on this one.

I have noticed that some old Stock apps that I had deleted are back.. Voice Control.. Moxier Mail, Etc are back.. need to find the right (new?) file names so I can delete them again.. but they aren't causing problems.

OH... and Odin still seems to be working for me. (of course all I have to download is the 9.2 kernal that I already have on my phone... but it connected and downloaded just like before the CL14 update. Maybe it's because my CL14 update came from Zefie.. but so far everything is workng fine.

Thanks again to the forum here and everyone that contributes to it and all the patches, apps and everything.

Stephen :)

Well my phone was successfully updated but the only thing that concerns me is that the baseband version says "S:M900.8.OS.CL14" instead of "S:M900.4.OS.CL14" like the flyer said. The phone does seem a little more responsive and the keyboard lag is GONE, ill report any battery life improvements tomorrow

Same version here, updated today. Sounds like maybe a typo in the flyer or maybe the flyer was drafted early in anticipation of the release and a newer version came after.

I notice that the Baseband version (S:M900.8.OS.CL14) corresponds to the Hardware version (M900.8.0). The picture here also has corresponding version numbering: Official Samsung CL14 Software Update at Sprint Service/Repair Centers 01/15/10 (Sprint)

I was somewhat worried about going in for this update due to all the stories here. I called the sprint store and they weren't aware of the update but he put me on hold and came back on the line about 30 seconds later and said they can do it and to go ahead and bring my phone in. Went in and it took them about 10 mins for the update and they were done. Phone works fine but it did erase all my user data so now I have to reinstall all apps. Haven't played with it much but all seems well.

I just got the update. I'm in Rockville, MD and the staff at the local Sprint store we're well aware of the update and told me to bring it on in. So I brought the phone in and it took about an hour. It did wipe your phone except for the contacts. But even if it wiped your contacts, they're all on Gmail anyway.

I MUST say, the biggest improvement I've found on the phone right off the bat is the response time entering text using the physical keyboard when texting and such. Also, improved response time when scrolling using the little optical pad. There is no delay at all now. Can anyone else tell the difference? Everything else (Exchange, Gmail, and other apps) came online with no problems. SUCCESS!

Exactly which Sprint Store/Authorized Retailer did you go to? I live near Rockville MD but called all my local stores and no one had the update available? Much appreciated and thank you! :)

BTW: Long time "lurker" that finally joined, I learned a lot from this forum so thanks to everyone!
