Flyer, Best Buy estimated arrival: 5/22-5/27?

So says their website. Think it's feasible this is actually getting released within the next week?

You and I seem to be the only ones who care about the Flyer at this point. I'm waiting until I can put my hands on one to see if I like it. Hopefully the May shipping date means that they will be in stores first week in June so I can see it in person.

There are a lot of features of the Acer A500 that I really like (mainly the full size USB port), all except the size. Now that the A100 is delayed (probably for months) the Flyer is top of the list.

The only hesitation I have is the price (which I can get over since I'll use it for a long time) and the upgrade to 3.x in the future. They keep saying that it will be upgraded to Honeycomb, but until there is a real timeline it's just fiction. I'd hate to spend $500 on a tablet that won't be able to run any of the new tablet applications that "should" be flooding the market any day now.

I've been very close to just getting a 7" Galaxy Tab a few times. I don't really want a 3G one, but you can now get one on T-Mobile for $100 with a two year contract. If the Flyer won't get Honeycomb then it's not much better than the Tab.

Agree that the price point is tough to swallow... $500, +$80 for the damn pen, which I think is essential.

Lack of Android 3 also disappointing. Since I've never done it before... would 'rooting' one of these things allow a direct upgrade to 3? Would the notes app and pen interface still work?

Ultimately I will be holding off until I get to use one in person. Precision of that pen for writing and drawing will be big for me.

Amazes me how all these tablets out there... I read the features list and think "Ok awesome, awesome, awesome, aw- wait, you don't have Feature X like the Y Tablet does?? For Christ's sake!"

I'm hoping that they cave and include the pen at Best Buy, it's such a part of the functionality that to not include it makes the entire tablet worthless.

Rooting and being able to install a new ROM on the Flyer isn't known yet someone will probably figure it out. However, you wouldn't likely be able to just get a 3.0 ROM and install it and have the pen work. Unless XDA can get ahold of the scribe software too. We might be stuck waiting for HTC to make an official upgrade and hopefully release the source.

I pre-ordered at BestBuy and noticed they've finally charged my card which indicates it's shipped. (Or at least they claimed it wouldn't be charged until they shipped.)

The annoying thing is that the freakin' pen is nowhere to be found for sale on either Bestbuy, or BBFB. I'm going to have to go down to the store on release day to see if they have any in stock.

Sounds like you just signed up to do an unboxing video...

I expect to be out at BB this weekend to see if I can play with one. Birthday coming up in a few weeks and I'm trying to decide if this is what I'm going to get.

My local BB has about 10 pens in stock. I just picked one up for 79.99+tax. The tablets go on sale on Sunday. They had a demo unit they let me see behind the counter. The display's sharp, much better than the Galaxy tab. Unfortunately the pen functions don't work until you pair the tablet with an actual pen which they apparently hadn't bothered to do yet.

depends on the shipping you pick if you get it online. the best buy mobile store at the mall where I live actually called me today letting me know that they came in... and that I could pick mine up ASAP ... too bad I got that voicemail just now (about 1045pm) and the mall is closed... I'll be going first thing tomorrow to get it! :)

but on their site, it does come out on May 22nd. But I think ETA is for delivery. so if you pick regular shipping, you may not get it until a week after release date. happened to my boyfriend when he ordered an xbox game and he didn't get it until a few days after the release date.

Picked mine up this morning too around 11am. Didn't seem to be much excitement going on about the release. I don't even know if they had set one up on display yet. I wish they had some cases for sale, or a stand. (Especially since the BB version doesn't come with a case!) I really like the leather folio case I have for my Galaxy Tab. I also found the weight to be heavier than I was expecting after using the Galaxy tab. Ran a couple quadrant scores (1950 ~ 2210)... Still setting up accounts and apps. Woot!

Just got back from Best Buy... they didn't have a display or anything, but when I asked they did have a demo piece available and about a half dozen in stock. From playing around with it briefly, seemed pretty cool. The $580 price tag is a little rough...

You guys that picked one up today, let us know what you think after you play around with it a bit! Might swing back and get one tomorrow.
