i just flashed myn 2.2 using rom-manager. clear cache and everything like it said to do in the write up. but when it rebooted its stays on the white "htc evo 4g " screen. does it take really long to boot up? its been like 6 min so far
ok glad you got it working. first off you probably have clockwork mod 3.0.0.5 i believe. it uses a script called edify and is mainly meant to work with a non sense (aosp) rom called cyanogen mod. however, most other roms use a script called amend which your version of clockwork mod will not work with. there is another custom recovery out there that works with both scripts called amon ra. clockwork mod 2.6 also works with both scipts as well. so in order to be able to flash roms and not worry about if it is compatible with your recovery, you have two options:
1. downgrade to clockwork mod 2.6 or
2. you can switch recoveries to amon ra 2.3 (my recommendation)
you can get both in my sig ref#1. the link has instructions on how to install them. of course if you have any more questions you know what to do.
The AMON RA recovery is a PC36IMG.zip file. Root of your SD card refers to the 'top-level'ok so is how would i remove clockwork and install amon ra 2.3?
is this what i will be using to flash new things manually?
and do i have to falsh every thing that i want to customize?
and last when putting zip files in root what does that mean? all i did was create a folder on my sd card called root and put my zip files there.
ok so i should just put my zip files onto the sd card and not a folder? The AMON RA recovery is a PC36IMG.zip file. Root of your SD card refers to the 'top-level'
IE: When I put my flash drive in my windows computer, it is assigned say F:
F: is now root. My folder F:\Documents is a directory. makes sense?
I flashed amon ra right away, so I'd actually recommend backing up your nand. of stock rooted, just for safety sake. Then flash amon ra, and do another nandroid.
ok so i should just put my zip files onto the sd card and not a folder?
and to get things strait i will download amon Ra place it onto the zip and then reboot holding down volume->recovery-> install zip from sd-> then click amon ra file?
and my sound isnt working is there something i can do.
Sorry about all the questions u are extremely helpful. i been reading the how-to forever and there so many questions that come up
How do i go back to stock 2.2 root? i read over the rooting for dummies and i dont even know when or what part i installed the clockwork 3.0.Yup, thing likes roms and kernels can be in folders but other things (namely anything named PC36IMG.zip) should be in the root of the sd card.
Well, first I would restore to your stock sense 2.2 rooted back up. Then check sound. If everything is working... then put the amon ra file in the root of your sd card. From there I'd let it install it (during the bootloader screen it will say something like "do you want to install this?" tell it yes.)
Then with amon ra installed and working, I'd make a nandroid of your stock 2.2 rooted just in case. Then you can flash away with your hearts desire.
(I don't think I missed anything, but I'd look over the rooting for dummies guide once again after reading this to see if that guide makes more sense)

but i know i did becasue when i do power up holding down volume and selecting recover it shows a icon saying clockwork 3.0
Okay, I've never used Clockwork 3.0, but if you boot into the bootloader (vol down + power on), you should have a 'recovery' option or something similar. From there, you should see several options, such as flash , backup ... etc.
And if you made a nandroid backup of stock 2.2, then restore that. If not.. make a backup of whatever you're running now (looks like myns 2.2).
Okay, if you don't have a stock 2.2 backup that's fine, but at least have a backup of your current setup.
If that doesn't help, list your options from clockwork.
ok not exactly sure where you are at but here is the steps:
to get recovery switched:
1. first if you have not already done that make a nandroid backup in cloclwork mod. more on this later
2. download PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip
3. rename the file PC36IMG. basically just delete the "_ra_2.3" part of the name. the main thing is that it needs to be named PC36IMG.zip exactly. Just remember not to add ".zip" as windows hides extensions so that it will be named "PC36IMG.zip.zip" which will not work.
4.transfer the renamed file to the root of your sd card (not in any folder just on your card)
5. power off then press and hold power+vol down, hboot will scan for the file if is named correctly.
6. it will ask you to update then press vol up for yes
7. it will then ask you to reboot select no.
8. go into your new recovery and select backup/restore and make a nandroid backup.
9. then reboot and you should be good to go with your new recovery
your previous nandroid backup from clockwork mod will not work with amon ra.
