May 21st....the end or not?

Will not happen.

Rapture was invented in the 19th century, it has zero reflection in the bible.

You can misinterpret some lines, but there is zero support in the bible.

The only real line about the rapture in the bible and it is as vague as the rest.
1 Thessalonians 4 said:
13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

If you take it at literal meaning, your dead family members are in the ground asleep, not in heaven.

It could definitely be the "what if?" factor. People are easily influenced. Biblical scriptures have major influence on the religious and everyone else follow the "what if?" factor. But i do agree with both....
What if?

Well let us really look at what if? If it was correct, then we have already seen the 7 signs, which could read as anything. But we also have had the antichrist among us. Not only is he/her here, but he actually got the whole world to follow him/her. Now only did he get the whole world to follow him/her, but actually called him/herself christ.

So who is it? How has brought the beast of bible, conquered the world, and called themselves christ? Because as far as I know, and I have been paying attention, the world is still the same, crappy, divided world, as it was 2000 years ago.

It is less violent, healthier, and even less diseases/famine. Which means that 4 horsemen have not be released on the planet.

I really wish religious groups would read the bible before the mindlessly follow something.

That church is going to be like "F**k" once they realize they wasted so much time and money on this. They will be the laughing stock for a long while I think. This is more absurd than the people believing that the world is going to end in 2012.

The church itself is making a ton of money off of it.

However some supporters have given up their life savings.

How else would you describe the dead person's instantaneous leap forward to the end of time to a first century audience?

People don't arrive in heaven in dribs and drabs...they will all arrive at the same time to face the judgement...and the best way to imagine it in the 21st century is 'time travel'. The best way in the 1st century to imagine it was to be as if you were 'asleep'. It will likely be neither of these but something else we can't get our heads round. I'm not stating fact here, just an opinion based on putting different but related sections of scripture together...add 2 and 2 and resulting in 5 :D

Oh...and on the 21st of May thing...Jesus himself said it wasn't for people to know when the end of time was but that it 'would come like a thief in the night' - so for someone to say that they can name a date is in direct conflict with the words of Jesus.

And before you ask, the Bible does not say the opposite is true in another section.

He's making earthquakes happen, burnin' your people up
Tryin' ta rapture 'em, so y'all need ta hide your kids. Hide your wife.
Hide your kids. Hide your wife and hide your husbands
Cuz he's rapturein' everybody out here

You don't have to go and repent
He's lookin' fo you. He gon find you, he gon find you
So you can run and tell that, run and tell that, run and tell that
Homeboy. Home home home boy! :p
