Want to keep unlimited data when you upgrade to 4g, better hurry...

while id love to do this...there is simply NOT any 4G phone that i would pay retail for right now...just no way...

the X2 entices me more than the TBolt or Charge...

If there was a good enough phone out there I would pay the early termination fee and sign up with my own account (my phone is under my fiancee's name right now).

I think VZW is doing this on purpose, not having good 4G phones out there right now, to minimize people jumping on unlimited 4G data......just my guess though :D

i mean there is nothing WRONG with the TBolt IMO...and if i was up for a new contract and was picking a new phone i would have no problem with either the TBolt or the X2(if i wanted to stay 3G)...but neither of them are better than the X by ENOUGH for me to pay so much out of pocket for them...

I've seen a few selling on eBay and Craigslist for just a little more than than the 2 year contract price. I can say that the TB isn't a bad phone but I still like my old X much better. If you don't plan to root your phone then a TB is hands down better than the X because it has no lag like the X without adjusted memory settings (my TB always has over 200mb free where my X would get down to 50-90 mb and freeze up without autokiller)

I've gotta say, I think Verizon might have screwed themselves on this plus the droid x. The droid x is cool enough that I won't mind using it right up until the day my 2-year contract expires, allowing me to switch carriers if the pricing plan doesn't work for me. Usually the phones I get are cool but fall apart after a year, meaning I sorely need that upgrade at 20 months.

But then, in 2 years wifi will probably be even more widespread than it is now, meaning I'd probably be okay going to a smaller data plan... if it was cheap.

I'm guessing your lifetime plan will no longer be valid........going from 3G to 4G.

Well, I thought of that, but I specifically asked the retention specialist if that would be the case and she said it wouldn't. So, I'm going to hold them to her word. If they mess with it, there are other carriers.

okay so if we dont swtich to 4g we will be grandfathered in but if we do switch to a 4g phone then we lose it??

I say this is the case, for both ATT and VZ. The way I see it, they are going to implement this at the same time, and they won't care if people jump to another carrier? TMobile will be ATT soon enough, and Sprint's network just isn't good enough for a majority of cellphone users...

There's no where to run, this is happening...

I haven't even upgraded to GB yet and i'm still wow'ed by my DX after jumping over from a BB..

however, it would be nice to know what the financial blow is going to be moving ahead..i don't like being tied into a two year contract with a curveball coming my way..the $$ i'm paying now would have to stay through my contract no matter what vzw does, no?

I don't believe they can change it once you are in a contract. The point was that if you want 4g service, you'll be required to switch over to a tiered data plan. Most likely this will not apply to those who switch over now, which may explain the release of the 4g phones that don't "wow" current customers...

No....

- VZW is switching over to tiered data plans...meaning there will no longer be an "unlimited plan." you will pay for a certain amount of data...

- to switch to a 4G plan...you're going to need to sign a new contract and update your data plan...

- if you do it NOW...and get an unlimited plan (before they are done away with) you will be grandfathered in...and will get to keep your plan (until you decide to sign a new contract)

- if you do NOT buy a 4G phone now...when you do buy one down the line...you will be forced to sign up for a 4G data plan...and it will be tiered

When tiered plans do come your saying you will not be able to buy a 4g phone for retail price and they will force you to buy a subsidized phone and new contract. Also can you buy a 4g phone for retail now and not sign a new contract. I just got done talking with a sales person and I was told since there is no plan that is just a 4g plan that you would be grand fathered in if you pay retail for 4g phone now but do you trust a sales person.

Verizon was offering a plan called Talk and Text plus Data starting last November and ending in the end of January as I recall. Basically they credit you $20 a month for each line you have with a data plan so it ends up being $10 per line. The plan was originally only offered to a small test group but once it got out in the net several of us that were not part of the test group got in on the deal. There is a large thread on it in the Verizon section of the forum.

Everyone keeps saying you'll be grandfathered into to unlimited.
Someone please offer proof to that statement.

I could be wrong, but I think people are suggesting that if you sign your contract now, you'll get to keep the pricing plan for the length of the contract-- not so much that you'll get to pay your low, low prices forever, but once you sign a contract for $30 unlimited, they can't charge you more until your contract expires.
