Root Flashing Rom on Eris Erases Data on SD Card

I use the XtrSense 5.x version of ROM and I've noticed that when I've flashed the ROM, any photos I have saved on the SD Card are deleted. This happens for any directory on the card (e.g., DCIM, Download, etc). Fortunately, none of my backups have been affected but it is a quirky side effect of flashing.

When I first rooted my phone and installed the XtrSense Rom in 2010, I didn't have this effect. I've noticed that when I flash a ROM upgrade the ROM or more typically, receive a replacement phone under warranty, flashing the ROM erases any photos/wallpaper on my card.

For the record, I do backup my card to a web server and my laptop before flashing.

Anyone else experience this issue?

Absolutely never. I have been rooted for almost a year, have flashed ROMs probably close to 300 times since then, and the only time that I had data deleted on an SD card was when I used Recovery to re-partition the card - knowing that re-partitioning would format the card.
