Droid 3 Running Tab On Rumors

and the phone probably will not work with AT&T or T-Mobile in the U.S. After being unlocked, it should work with just about any other GSM carrier in the world.

Hey bsweetness,

Wow, I didn't care much about LTE, but I needed a global one. Like you, that Droid 3 seems to be the perfect one for me. Where did you find info about its GSM status? Also, what did you mean by in the US it would remain CDMA? Putting a T-mobile or ATT sim card won't work?

It's a Verizon phone, so it will work on Verizon's CDMA network in the US. The Droid Pro and the Droid 2 Global (both global phones) have the GSM bands for AT&T and T-Mobile completely locked out so that you can't use it with one of their SIM cards. One would guess that the Droid 3 will be the same, but no one will know for sure until it comes out. Leaks all around the internet, with most emerging from Howard Forums, state that it will be a global phone. Makes sense considering it's the replacement for a global phone (Droid 2 Global).

As far as updates on some more concrete specs, it looks like some further confirmation on the dual core OMAP4430 and qHD screen. Appears to be running Gingerbread as well:

Didn't both the Droid and Droid 2 come out around july? If so maybe a july release for this. Lets hope because that's when my upgrade is

Not quite. The original Droid came out in November 2009. The Droid 2 came out in August 2010 (with the Droid 2 Global following in November 2010). The Droid 3 is supposed to come out next month (June).

Kuzu, I don't know your reason for downplaying LTE 4G. But if you have or expect to have, LTE in your area, I strongly suggest that you consider your 4G phone choices.

I tried out the Thunderbolt, and decided to give it back because of all the battery problems and other things. But while I had it I could watch streaming video straight through with NO buffer load pauses! I took a photo on the phone while talking to my daughter and then pix messaged her the photo while still talking. As Tony the Tiger says: "It's GREAT!"

Anyone who needs a smartphone to browse the net, game on-line, or stream video can benefit -- A LOT -- from the speed of 4G. If you think you have it or will have it, try it out on a phone at the store or with a friend before you decide it isn't for you.

Here are some boringly repetitive reflections on what 4G speed is about:

I am entirely with you and B, the D3 would be my dream phone -- if it just had 4G LTE, sigh...

You're right, I might love it. But as of now it's not a definite requirement for me, seeing how new the tech is, coupled with the already short battery-life, and with my need of a KB + global, I can deal with the current 3G :D

Absolutely. It's not that 4G wouldn't be nice or useful, but there are other things that are more important than 4G for some people. Myself included.

[/FONT] It seems I’m in the same boat, holding out for a KB – and LTE. I might also toss that off as NBD, except that I had the Thunderbolt for two weeks, and I miss the instant web pages, the done already downloads, and the uninterrupted streamed videos. You need a global phone. I'm irrationally fixated on KBs. We're catch-22ed.

Since I’m also doing without LTE, for the moment, why would I not want the D3? It’s obviously the best 3G phone for my needs right now. Faster, better screen, better KB, sweet gingerbread, too – much better than the D2. But I’m gonna get a cheap D2 (or something) and tread water until the ‘D4G’ shows up, maybe a year from now. Why?

I’m doing that because I don’t want to be faced with another trade-off at the end of that year: pay full retail for the ‘D4G’ or do without LTE 4G for another year ‘til my NE2 comes up again. I want 4G and a true qwerty KB -- ASAP! It seems to me short-sighted to commit two years to a stopgap phone when my dream phone is already visible in the distance. Once you've used it for a while, 4G LTE becomes like a necessity. A lot of folks stayed with dial-up modems for years, because they'd never seen what Ethernet could do.

To use my NE2 for a D3 now, to me, would be like blowing my savings on a super golf-cart because of the specs, when I already have a serviceable golf-cart, and if I wait a year I'll be able to afford a great new sports coupe -- my dream car!

EDIT: interesting occurrance -->
I posted the above text from this post to this AC thread:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/rumored-devices/54653-moto-droid-3-what-features-do-you-want-11.html
It would be post #111, I think. But it flashed a "Won't be visible until after review" message at me. And it isn't yet posted. I hope this is paranoia, but if TC_Mits now joins the "desaparecidos" know that I didn't lose interest. More likely, it was a corporate interest that fears too much free speech in the United $tates that throttled me. Feel free to copy this post to your PC.
If I become silent now, (God, I hope I am wrong about this.) it's been fun!

EDIT - Update: They posted it the next day, But my next post also received the same "moderator review" treatment. I checked my profile and I have allowed moderator pms, but "Inbox contains 0 messages."

I think if they somehow took out the world sim and made it LTE this phone would fly off the shelves. I mean this is shaping up to be a true beast of a phone and the addition of LTE would make it sell probably better than the iphone. Guess only time will tell and most likely it wont be LTE but we can hope anyway. I am going to keep looking around and see what pops up about this phone as it gets closer to june.

I think Motorola is saving their big LTE phone push for the Bionic. Putting LTE into this would have quite an impact on the push that is sure to come for the Bionic. Besides wanting great sales in general, they'll have to recoup the cost for the long development and failures of the Bionic.

So what other top of the line verizon android KB phones are out there or to be released? I want 4G/LTE, KB, dual core, 4" screen.

There aren't any 4G phones with a physical keyboard that are out or that have been announced (or leaked for that matter). The Droid 3 is the only upcoming smartphone with a physical keyboard that I'm aware of.

The Droid Pro and the Droid 2 Global are probably the best Android phones that Verizon currently has with physical keyboards. There have been some sparse rumors about a new Droid Pro later this year, but no word on whether it will be 3G or 4G.

Interesting idea, I would also think that more people would buy a LTE + KB than Global + KB. I'm just glad the D3 went with the former, and can hardly wait for it.

the motorola droid x 2 is around the corner, the rumours tell that it looks exactly as the 1st generation of the droid x. Without any updates? what's the meaning of the 2nd generation otherwise?

It might look the same on the outside, but it's significantly upgraded on the inside. qHD screen and a dual-core processor amongst other things.

There are several errors in the first post (no 2.4, no LTE), but the only camera the original post talks about is the front facing camera, not the rear camera. 0.3 to 1.5 mp is just fine for the front facing camera. The rear camera is rumored to be 8 mp.

They went with the latter, actually. But I agree, all the fuss about demand driving the KB choices, but global phones, if you think about, would seem to be a far more specialized market.

I realize this is off-topic. But after googling til I gave up and searching more generic Android threads in multiple fora, I realized that this thread may be the best place to find someone who can actually answer the question:
Are there any good Android full qwerty virtual keyboards with a dedicated number row like the one shown for the D3?

I will probly have to make do with a DX for a while and I will need at least a good virtual keyboard, if I can't have a real one.

Although I am presently happy with my Droid X (rooted, OC/UV), I am curious to see what actually comes out as the Droid 3. Don't know if it will be enough to make a switch, unless the price is right - or comes down after a few months.

I do like the qHD display and the dual core CPU - as its currently defined. Again, we'll see what actually comes out.

I'm less bothered by the lack of 4G LTE (would make it too big) and more interested in what version of Android it will get. So far the D2 and D2G do not have 2.3.3 and the DX was supposed to and its been delayed, again. The DX2 should have launched with 2.3.x but didn't so I just don't see the Droid 3 getting a current OS.

I find it disheartening that the mfg's think they can push out a year old OS on devices with no clear window on an upgrade date. Its really time the carriers were hands off and allowed the mfg to get the updates out faster.
