A link to a story backing up this claim would be useful, I could make a post saying Verizon is giving away one year free service to everyone who takes their phone into a Verizon Store and shows them they are rooted and running a custom ROM but that wouldn't make it true

There are probably 200 news articles posted in April. Which one are you referring to?

It think he is referring to wireless tether/tethering and wired tether/tethering. I think he is saying that if you update your phone, your wireless tether/tethering and/or wired tether/tethering will stop working, which is kind of pointless, lte has the ability to stop your wire or wireless tethering any time it wants to, rooted or not, updated or not.

And for the record, wired and wireless tether/tethering is a great service provided by verizon. I would say that everyone should get wired tether/tethering and wireless tether/tethering.

I don't tether why should I purchase a plan I have no intention of using, I've had free hotspot on my TB since I've purchased it and I think I've opened the program once on accident

On lte, yes it is. On 3g, not it is not. Tethering on 3g really disrupts the network and causes massive problems for other users.

Proof? I'm not going to pay Verizon for tethering when I already pay for an expensive enough plan just to use my phone. I'll tether as much as I want to on my unlimited smartphone plan until they kick me off their network.

Well good for you. As for proof, do a speed test during peak hours and one during not peak hours. The slower your connection, the worst it will be.

Lol my speed test is consistantly between 25 and 30 MB/S, last time I had a 3g speed test (when 4g was down) I was around 5 MB/S

What you are posting is impossible, assuming you meant megabits and not megabytes. You can not do with a normal network. What speed test are you using? Your 3g speeds can never go above 3.1mbps. EVER. 3g on verizon will not support anything above 3.1mbps, peroid. Not even a chance to get near 3.1mbps. You 4g speeds are way way way way too high. At most you could do 20mbps, you are only using 5mhz of spectrum. Something is flat out wrong with your testing.

not really. I think you need to familiarize yourself with a concept called the tragedy of the commons. Unfortunately, you'll probably hit wikipedia and get a second graders explanation of what it is and just go on and on.

Bandwidth is a finite resource. Some people use it judiciously, others ruin it for everyone else.

I'd ask people to educate themselves, but i have realistic expectations so ill stop now.

On the tethering issue, I look at it this way.

Compare tethering to a meal at a restaurant.

If I order their "Big Breakfast" (aka, say $29/2Gb) off the menu, they will bring me lots of food, but, it's a finite amount of food. I should be able to share that food with as many other people(aka, shared devices) sitting at my table as I want. After all, I paid for the food, the restaurant got their money, they shouldn't care how I share it.

However, if I order the breakfast buffet (aka, $?? for unlimited data). Then it's not really right for me to make extra trips, or bigger trips, through the buffet to feed others(aka, other devices) at my table.

Of course, in reality, I'd love to have one unlimited data plan, that I can use my Droid and my Xoom both on. (eg. Unlimited buffet, pay for one, but everyone eats).

Really, since this is really for one person though, I suppose it's more like 2 people at the buffet, but only one plate. So, two people are eating, but only one person has the plate at a time.

Ok, enough food analogy, it's making me hungry....

MBps and Mbps are not the same thing. You are getting 30Mbps down; this is really 3.75MBps. Divide Mbps numbers by 8 to convert them.

My statement was correct. I am on LTE, there is no buffering for video, I downloaded the 1.5 GBs for spectral souls in less than half an hour, I am using the speedtest.net app the choices are KBps and MBps if you like I will change the reading to KBps so you can gawk and try to tell me I am not receiving the speed I am, or I could post the 40+ I got at 3 AM this morning.

You are still getting MBps confused with Mbps. They are very different and your speedtest results even show that you are still measuring in Mbps. There is no way in hell you are getting 40 MBps (aka 320 Mbps) on LTE; it isn't even specced for that.
