Tweaking the Thunderbolt to the max without Rooting.

Anybody who says this doesn't make much difference don't know jack squat. If you have a Task Killer delete it. More problems than they are worth. A few tweaks is all you need. Some People say the whole idea of having a smartphone is exactly that having a smartphone so why do all this to phone. I can check my email whenever I want so I don't need my sync running. I have phone I can talk on, texting, Internet, that is all I want my phone for it's smart. If you want Everything on and running updating all the time with a pretty live wallpaper with a ton of widgets....hey don't complain about the battery. If you have 4g in your area on this phone the battery going to drain quicker. And we have a little bloatware which doesn't help.... If you don't want to root your phone or afraid of bricking it this is the way to get things done.

Go to settings in phone and make sure in settings on phone you have where you can download Apps outside of market checked.

1. Download "Astro File" from

http://download.cnet.com/Astro-File-Manager-for-Android/3000-2248_4-75016122.html

2. Go to web brower after downloadeding Astro File and go to bookmarks, bookmark this page. Now add the bookmark to your home screen, it's like having an app.

3. Now go into your Astro File App... hit menu key on phone then go to tools, now go to Application Manager/Backup....All your Apps will be in Installed Apps check each one and hit backup.

4. Now reset phone back to factory state. most phones you will go in settings and then to Privacy Or SD storage.

5. The phone is reset. Now go to cnet.com from your phone and download Astro File from it or if you're phone has it's own Sd card file manager use that to extract Astro File. Now go into Astro File again it "menu" then "tools" like you did before Go to "Application Manager Backup" go to Backed up Apps" check all the ones you want to keep and hit install.

No market needed less crap on your phone running in background and no regulations when you download outside of the market with good Apps Google ends up removing from it's market.

5. Go into your phone settings go to " ACCOUNTS SYNC" and disable Background Data and auto Sync unless you just have to have it like most important people lol. I do not however, I check my mail when I want or just text someone forget the dumb stuff.

6. Go into settings and go to display go to " Brightness " disable the auto brightness and turn your brightness down to as low as you would want it. There should be a widget on your phone or a setting where you can turn brightness up or down by clicking on it add it to your home screen for easy access..This is optional, makes it easy if you need to turn up brightness in sunny environment.

7. Go to your Animation option, it's in settings it might even be in same group with "brightness" and " screen time out" turn your Animations off or " some Animation"

8. Turn off, Wi Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, when not using them. Find in settings on your phone or it will be in browser settings and make sure your location isn't turned on. Everything you look up online just write ft wayne in front of what you want. Example Denver Colorado Best Buy or Denever Colorado Walmart. Just type in your city name before you type what you want do this right in google for anything you want to find locally where you live You don't need to be tracked to find your way around.

9. Go to your phones camera and take a picture of something pitch black. Put your hand over the lens or go in a pitch black room just make sure the picture is Black. Go to your wallpaper and choose my own phones for wallpaper background on phone use the Black picture.

Do all of that and let me know if phone works any differently. Remember to shut off phone once a day for about 5 minutes then turn it back on. This is good for the phone. And pulling the battery out of it once a month and putting it back in is good also.

You're phone should be faster, longer battery, and run smoother. keep your cache, history, data cleared every so often in browser settings. If you can avoid downloading Apps then do it, for example instead of downloading Ebay, Amazon, Etc Etc type Apps remember just use your browser to find these sites or whatever site you go to "bookmark" it in browser then send the bookmark to your home screen. Some Apps like Facebook the App works smoother on the thunderbolt.

There may be some tips in here that are worth mentioning, but I'm having a really hard time understanding much of what's written due to the sentence structure. I've had to read most of it twice.

It seems like a lot of the things you've mentioned though, nearly defeat the purpose of having a smartphone. I use the $^%# out of mine and just chose to recharge whenever I can. I do however, have 4g turned off of the phone, and I can get a full day battery--even with live wallpapers and GPS and WIFI running. If you really want to save your battery and not use GPS, or WIFI, or a wallpaper with color in it...why not just power the phone down until you're ready to make a call?

Also, do you really think a black wallpaper will use MEASURABLY less battery than that of a still background, but with color?

We do not have an OLED screen, static wallpaper color will not affect battery life.

The jist of the OP was do a factory reset after installing astro and backing up your apps. Reinstall astro and any apps you want to use. If you want more apps do not use the market use <removed web site name to confirm I won't get flaged> because they do not have any restrictions on what can be posted on their site (i.e. piracy)

Then turn off sync, and any features you do not use. GPS, WiFi, ect.

Also do not install apps that may sync in the background when you can make a bookmark for the site as it will use less memory on your phone and the app will not run in the background.

All in all the suggestions are not really the best. You should use a valid app store for your apps. The dev will be supported by your purchase and you can get updates, if the app has a memory leak or security flaw it will be fixed. Downloading apps from a file sharing site causes you to download things that may be hacked or altered without your notice. A factory reset will not remove bloatware so I can not figure out how that would help. If you don't use an app uninstall it there are much easier ways to do so without a factory reset.

I've been seeing more and more posts providing info about piracy site poping up recently. Sadly many users don't think about it being wrong they just know they can get that paid app for free.

Yep and I'm going to laugh hystericaly when they download that "free" app and it ends up being a virus that gives out all the data on their phone for free...

There is a reason why Google has some restrictions on the Market children. When you grow up you will realize that not everything in the world is meant to be yours or exactly your way.

I don't remember what app it was but one dev had an app that as in the market for $1, and they went on warez sites and put up links to file sharing sites with an .apk that once installed would send out a text to all your contacts say "I just tried to steal 'app name' a $1 app on my android smartphone" and took you to the market to make the purchase. Brilliant.

Now that's classic!

Jrife, I'm not sure what's the point of going around in circle like this? If you don't want to sync your phone with Google, you don't have to. Unticking all the sync options in Settings >> Accounts and Sync would be an easier solution.

Asking members to install from an outside source like the one you posted, is very risky. You don't know where the files are coming from or if the person who uploaded it altered the app in any ways that may make the app malicious. For new members who don't know the rope of how to use their new TB, they might inadvertently download malwares.

It is much safer to download the app from the market. There's a great review system in place if there's something wrong with the app and you get 100% support from the developer. A developer won't support an app that is downloaded from somewhere that is not on their website or the market, with the thought that it might have been altered.

I have replaced any link that you've posted to cnet, which is more trustworthy.

Lol now the OP makes even less sense.

I've edited my post above removing the file sharing site's name.

I would drop my jaw if you contacted a dev and told them "I downloaded 'insert paid app name here' from 'insert warez site name here' for some reason I am having this error can you help me?" Now knowing some of the devs for android it wouldn't shock me if a few would offer support but that is just because they are super nice people.

I did try to make the edit as clear as possible without taking away from the OP.

Jrife can edit his/her post again to make sense (with the links to cnet still intact of course)

That's the thing. I doubt people would say that they downloaded the link from a sharing site. So the dev has to work extra hard finding an issue if it's not native to the app they created. I've seen a small 4mb app be like 20mb on those sites....if you don't know how 'big' the original apk was, this wouldn't be ringing crazy alarms in your head.

It is like trying to clean a car with oil, no matter what you do it won't get clean.

It isn't hard to check and see what the correct size is. I personally frequent a few warez sites a couple times a week, not to pirate software but to see what people are saying about the apps. It is crazy what people will do for those sites. Adding so many worthless apps that I can't believe anyone would buy in the first place. But when I see an app posted on here but no reviews I can usually find a warez site with a review that has more than once swayed me into making a purchase. Most likely not the safest internet pratice but it has helped me in the past.
