Has gingerbread improved desire hd battery life?

Upvote 0
Undeniably yes :D For me anyway, I know others have had a few issues.

Presently, I'm 1 day, 13 hours and 3 mins since last charge and I've 41% remaining. It's not been hammered, but I've made 27 mins worth of voice calls, 25-30 Texts, Wifi/3G has only been for about half an hour and I've recorded a 5 min video and took about 4-5 photos. Even so, on that usage in Froyo, I was most likely sitting at 20% or so.

I'll post a screen shot when it's about to die.

Be little caution before going 2.3.3

I have only had a day on my Desire HD but battery life seems to be completely screwed, In cradle all night, woke up to find not quite fully charged!! put back on charge, finally got green.

Nearly flat now, 6 hours into the day with almost NO use.

Only done few seconds googling but lots of Nexus owners seem to be struggling to get past half a day with little or no use.

With 2.2 I usually had a couple of days without charge on my fairly light use, but lots of wifi & some GPS.

Going to do more research but beware!

-- Seems to back to normal now but still early days,
Had full charge and managed 13 hours up time, little use but still got 60% left so I feel about as before.
Not sure what if/fixed it.
From other threads might be one of the following:-
Forgot & re-established connection to my WiFi routers.
Immediately after the 2.3.3. update I set the WiFi advanced setting to Best Wf-Fi performance, some say this alone can have quite a high power drain, always have had it off before but did seem to struggle to choose the best router so I thought would give it a go & forgot I had.
Perhaps simply running battery down & full recharge recalibrated the battery, I did not do charge/power/remove etc etc. others refer to, not sure what the exact procedure for this is anyway.

I think Gingerbread has helped. I've had my HD for nearly 4 months and have an idea which number to expect on my battery widget in the mornings (Battery Indicator Pro displays a % number). I've noticed I've been pleasantly surprised after the update..hardly a scientific opinion though!

I tried Greenpower for a while with 2.2.1 but started getting mobile internet problems (though GiffGaff were having internet outages, so it's hard to say whether it was the app, or a combination). Took it off and no mobile internet problems since.

Now battery saver app-less. I've read mixed reviews about Juice Defender; wondering whether that's worth a try. I've read JD can also cause mobile internet problems! (I don't mean Jack Daniels ;))!

PS: Had no issues with Wi-fi whatsoever, by the way.

My battery life has tripled, no exaggeration, before hand (i had that update that got pulled because of the sms probs) I would get about 8 hours of use with 3g on and a lil browsing + ebuddy app, now that same use probably uses about 30% of my battery, this is great, shame it didn't come sooner, am happy with my phone now finally

:p (sorry)

Admittedly, WiFi was off for most of the time, but that's with 40 mins worth of voice calls, 40ish texts, 5-10 mins of video usage and 10 or so pics.

Interestingly, since updating to Gingerbread, that's the first time I've seen Android OS in the battery usage.

My battery use is allot worse. could easily get a day and a half before the update, now with the same use I am lucky to get through a day. Tried everything to get it better, only solution I have found is to turn the phone off, and only switch it on when I need to use it. HTC seem un interested in helping sort the issue, so have gone from a loyal HTC customer, to one who would happily use any other phone but HTC or for that matter at the moment anything other than android.

The new features that have been put in gingerbread are totally destroyed by the atrocious battery life.

NOT A HAPPY HTC OR ANDROID USER

Maybe htc need to actually test their updates, it's not like they had long enough to test it out.

I'm with El Presidente on this one:

I still maintain that its easily possible to get this kind of life out the our DHDs by being proactive about app monitoring and using the tools available to everyone within the phones as standard. I'd be interested to know of all the people complaining of crap life which of those maintain their laptop/pc on a regular basis with disc defrag, cleanup and registry optimisation? These little palm sized wonders should be treated with equal enthusiasm.

Mines increased, too. 25 hours since I charged and currently at 66%. The last 2 charges have lasted about two and a half days, and this looks like being similar. Wifi is on continuously (incidentally without any dropping out problems), but I don't sync with facebook etc.
I'm also loving the new vibrance of the screen.
