...my laggy capitvate.....that freezes and does odd things...and i dont want to touch root at least...until my warranty is up which is ages.

so i heard in another thread i should have done a factory reset...when rogers in canada pushed my 2.2 froyo to me months ago....the person said so kind of condescendingly.....
which is sad...cuz i dont know that...and still dont know do you do that before or after your upate and how?
i might do it now...but do i have to do the 2.2 update again or not?

also...re all my data...i have issues with kies so dont trust it....my contacts are not just google..they appear in contacts as a hodge podge mess of different formats...and duplicates...
so i cannot use titanium pro as i am non rooted and i heard backup pro is good but i also read some bad experiences losing things or not saving how your home screens look which i want as it would be a humongous pain to do all over again.

so i need your help, step by step, please, i dont even know if this will fix some of my issues, but its worth a shot.

Since you have 2.2, doing a factory reset will keep you at 2.2. Give it a shot. I did and it took care of a lot of problems.
thanks. i think i will. i just want to save my home screens and contacts and that is why i am hesitating. but thanks for encouragement to do that as i am hoping it will be better, i also wasnt sure if it will stay 2.2 so thanks!

Move all of your contacts to the Gmail account that you have synced up with your phone. I have over 130 contacts and even though I load a custom ROM very often, I am never worried about my losing my contacts when I erase the phone because I know they are backed up on my Gmail account.

I would never trust just your phone with your contacts. You lose your phone or it crashes, they are all gone.

i am such a unknowing knob...i know i had a gmail account for some odd reason from past even though i never used it ...i use yahoo for email...and only when prompted from the phone when first setting it up did i enter my username and password for google gmail (which took several tries as i never use it)..to get it in.
but did i conciously use gmail for contacts etc...no..no i didnt..i dont use gmail and my contacts are in yahoo and in the phone...i am not necessarily synced with google...i am not sure how to do that.

i am using a mybackup pro and have backed up everything...i am gong into the settings and was about to do a factory reset when i saw up above it the option using the phones built in ability to back up data and settings and also secondly a option to automatically restore when reinstalling an app all settings and data.......
would i be correct in assuming this is not necessary to use as my backup pro is handling everything? or should i be doing this too as other things that mybackup pro cannot do?
confused?

I'm really not sure to be honest. I don't know how you access your backed up data via Google but in your case I guess it wouldn't hurt to use both.

no i dont mean anything to do with google...go into your phone under settings and then under privacy...that is where you have factory data reset option at the bottom...
...above it you have option to back up data and or automatic restore...this is simply saved to your sd...it has nothing to do with google.
i am just looking for someone who knows mybackup pro well..to answer if this step is necessary or not.

Well have you done a factory reset yet?
yes, i also used backup pro. it brought almost all back as promised. just a few small things not quite right but overall fine.
but my phone is still laggy. i give up. today out of blue the yahoo email i access thru the built in email app stopped working and said invalid username and password.............sigh.
it did this mths ago and then out of blue fixed itself...it does it once in awhile but this has been all day. i cannot use the yahoo mobile app as it only shows messages in small groupings to to see a previous day i have to keep hitting next messages..next messages and it is very slow.
i dont want k9......................so yet again another capitvate issue. if i wasnt so used to over 25 yrs of yahoo email i would just switch to gmail but i dont want to.......................sigh.

This happened to me last week, except it was with Hotmail. I changed my password on the Hotmail site via my PC and now it works again on my phone.
thx. i found no solution until today, i used a reply someone gave to me in an old thread i found by accident searching and used his advice to change the setup ...different settings for server etc and voila...its back. i am getting an exchange thru my phone provider so i was not sure to do it as it will be a used and reconditioned one and mine was new since i got it...but i want to see if i can get a phone that works better and maybe can get consistent gps since i moved to a completely new part of the country to me and need it.

thx for suggestions and offered help.
