I don't think I could handle the speed of a Nexus S that doesn't have radio issues. O.O

In all seriousness, my phone is INSANELY fast compared to my Blackberry. I don't know if I have the antenna issues, but if I do, I don't notice them since as I said, this phone blows my blackberry out of the water. I've got it tethered to my laptop now and am browsing the internet just as quickly as if I were at home.

My phone seems to drop signal every once and awhile but the signal strength isn't effected.

as it its my phone .seems to work fine and is very fast. However the 4g, wifi, and signal status bars at the top seem to report a much lower signal than the phone is getting. when I run something like open maps it tells me there is about 2-4x as much signal as being reported in status bar. the status bar will say i have 1 bar and open maps will tell me I have an 80% signal. Meanwhile it says I have no bars 4g - but its on the 4g network with an IP address- and the phone is way faster than my previous 3g only phone. I havent had any calls drop but ive had interrupts in connectivity when it switches from 4g-wifi-3g etc.

So I think [and i could be wrong] that the reception problem is a bug in the way its displayed in the status bar and not an actual reception problem. I think apple had this same kind of problem at one point.but the phone seems to work fine despite what the status bar says

That's what I was thinking, the scale factor that they use to deflect the signal strength meter is off a bit. If the radio is getting a decent signal, that's what matters.

However, there were some reports from people who truly had poor signal performance compared to other models of Sprint phones IIRC. Not just here but on the Sprint forum.

I have to agree - I've seen the same issue.

Coming from an EVO - I would have 3-4 bars on the evo and just 1 on the nexus (even though coverage/data speeds/voice quality remained the same).

Another test I did was getting on the subway. On my way to work every day I stream live radio and the radio cuts out (data connection cuts out) at the EXACT same spot on both the EVO and the Nexus.

For WIFI, I do notice that it isn't as great at picking up a strong single. Places in the office that I used to get a WIFI signal on my EVO no longer work.

OK, that is an EXCELLENT data point to have. So the meter reading is off, but I can live with that if the actual performance is adequate and comparable to other phones on the same carrier.

There have been some reports of WiFi mysteriously disconnecting and whatnot, but that could just as easily be interference from neighbors in a congested area.

If I knew how to get into EVDO engineering section (on the EVO it is ##DEBUG#) I could compare actual signal strength #'s.

Any idea how to do that?

I was having some weird issues with my nexus today at work. Ive always had the signal/reception/not getting texts issues while at work while a friend has an evo and has never had a problem with signal loss. Today I noticed if I first unlocked the screen, I may have 2-3 bars that rapidly dwindle down to zero, then the phone seems to cycle between 3g/ wifi/ 1x all doing the same thing. Dwindling to zero then switching to another mode. I also have problems maintaining wifi connection that seems to get randomly dropped for no reason.


Has anyone noticed their nexus cycling like this? It seems like it's trying to a signal using differnt modes without much success. I haven't heard anything from sprint, samsung or google about this but I guess they have until the weekend before I get time off to exchange it.
