Help My phone is going downhill fast!

I've had my Dinc since launch and I love it to death. Recently, gradually, it has becoming slower and slower (especially during multiple texting threads). Eventually, the phone locks up and resets itself. I am noticing this happening more and more as time goes on.

I haven't done a hard reset and I am rooted (stock ROM). Would I lose root if I did that? If I am using Titanium backup my apps should be fine though, I think.

Oh yea, my battery is getting REALLY bad as well. Definitely time to upgrade, if only VZW would put out a phone.

Couple of quick things before you try a hard reset (which will not affect your root):

1. Clear all text messages and call logs (frees up precious space)

2. Battery pull

3. Are you using a task killer? (could be causing harm in the backend)

Also since you're rooted, download Cache Cleaner (or similar) from the market and give that a shot. Wouldn't be a big deal to factory reset since you're rooted with Titanium. Might even be beneficial at this point.

1. I habitually clear them out, I made that mistake when I first got my phone and it took a solid 20 minutes to delete the text thread with my girlfriend lol

I have the same problem.. Add to that: low space warnings (6gb free on both card and phone mem), random reboots, and reboot loops. I actually called VZ tonight and checked out my options. One. They'll give me $50 off the price of a new phone if I recommit to a 2 year contract (Dinc2 = $150, TB= 200). I said heck no. I'll probably stop by the store where we re-up and see what they can do.

the low on space warning can be fixed by "clearing data" from apps. The htc mail app, netflix, sky map, google maps are the usual suspects that hog a lot of data.

I mentioned this before in another thread that I was having quite a few random reboots to the point it was very frustrating. I was rooted since early November of last year and never had real issues with the phone until a month ago. I tried flashing different ROMs, kernels, factory reset, battery pull, and none resolved the poor performance and frequent random reboots. I finally resorted to unrooting the phone to see if that would help. No dice. I called Verizon and they told me that they would send me a refurb phone. I got the phone, reinstalled my apps and kept it stock. It has done a couple random reboots over the past month but nothing that concerned me. I'm glad I was able to get a refurb Incredible as I really like this phone and I am waiting for a phone that will entice me like how the Incredible did the first time around.

If your battery is going bad it might be causing some of your problems. You can get replacement batterys cheap and would go this route and do the other stuff that was mentioned and your Dinc should be back to normal.

I'm using the Seido 1750mah, but I still have my stock battery as well as a HTC 1500mah battery. Maybe I'll try the switch, but I feel like my phone would die in about 10 minutes lol.

not really, still putting off the factory reset. My phone reset once today, right after it slowed down during texting again.

Never asked me to confirm, just rebooted, now it looks like it did a half reset and half of the things are gone and sense is back. Wtf

Ok, it definitely didn't do a full reset and now i can't run any apps that I install. They all force close. This is not good.

You're rooted man. Just load a Rom to your card and then go into Clockwork, wipe data, wipe cache partition, wipe Dalvik cache (under advanced menu) and load a Rom. Plenty of stock-ish Roms out there. Try Virtuous, it's about as stable as you can get. Then go to the market, get Titanium, and reload your apps.

I believe I did get nandroid, as it was part of the basic rooting instructions. How would I use that?

If no apps will run right now, turn off the phone. While holding volume down, press the power button and enter hboot. Wait several seconds for it to try and autoload a file, it will fail which is normal. Then use the volume buttons to scroll and highlight "recovery". Then press power button to accept...you should now be in Clockwork.

Use volume keys to highlight backup/recovery and use the TRACKPAD button to select items in Clockwork (power button brings you backwards to previous screen). Select the restore option, then select your Nand backup. The filename will include the date it was made.

Once done the phone will restart and the phone should look like the day you made the backup. If Titanium Backup was/is not on your phone, travel to the market, load it and then do a Menu > Batch > Restore Missing Apps

FTR, put in my HTC 1500mah today and took the phone off the charger at about 9:20 a.m. No internet use, mild texting, battery in the orange already. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

You can nand backup now if you're solid. Either access recovery through hboot or there's an option to boot to recovery in Rom manager if you have it.

CM7 installed, woo hoo!

Ok, found google apps....but I can't get the phone to appear on the computer so I can drag things to the SD card. This isn't easy

For anyone wondering, it is like I have a brand new phone now. CM7 is pretty damn good! I'm pretty sure the battery is lasting longer, but it definitely takes a LOT longer to charge now though...so be prepared.

My DINC was experiencing some of the same stuff. Constantly getting message about low space. Cleared up data and moved stuff to SD card. Then looked at program sizes and noticed the K-9 mail (which is great) had grown very large over time. Deleted program and then re-installed. Fine ever since. Not sure what happened but its over with now.

Sorry to lurk and then jump in with something slightly off topic, but my Dinc, about a year old has just recently started to lose battery power fast. I'm generally a moderate user and used to be able to get through day just fine. Recently, however, late afternoon starts putting me into the orange and performance wanes.

Saw mention of the 1500 HTC battery. Where do I find it? Like the same basic form factor and have heard horror stories about the 1750. Thought the 1500 was the same as for the EVO, but all the sites say it won't fit the Dinc!
