Coming from an iPhone for the past 3 years, Im sick and tired of it so went out and got the Droid Charge today, As an iPhone hacker the first thing I wanted to do is root my phone and I am following the instructions on this page but I think Im having problems with the usb drivers. I installed the drivers and they work normally when usb debugging is turned off, but when I turn it on and plug the phone in it will not install the drivers and windows says no driver is installed. Im unable to locate a driver for this phone also and again it works great when usb debugging is turned off. So im in adb.exe and ready to imput the...

Code:
adb push GingerBreak /data/local/
adb push su /data/local/

but of course it says...

Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb push GingerBreak /
data/local/
error: device not found

Obviousely it must have something to do with the usb drivers, but how do I get it to work with usb debugging enabled? This stupid step has me stuck for the past 2hrs.

Spoke too soon...

GingerBreak starts to execute fine for me but then hangs after displaying the following. I let it run more than an hour and nothing changed. Any ideas?

Anyone know about this one?

Try this: go to androidcentral.com and find the droid charge forums there. In those forums you will find a link to download the droid charger's drivers that are needed. Download those then Odin back to ED1. Once you have done that try gingerbreak again and make sure that when use gingerbreak you need to have usb debugging switched on. If everything goes thru (hope it does) and a message appears saying that something went wrong and to reboot it yourself do the reboot and then go to market and download android terminal emulater and the superuser app. For some reason like on mine when i did the root proccess it didnt download superuser so i had to do that myself and check to see if i was rooted by typing "su" (without quotations) into the terminal emulater. If it all goes well exit terminal emulater then go back into it type these commands to get rid of the ED2 update:

su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2/dev/block/mtdblock4/system
cd/system/etc/security
mv otacerts.zip otacerts.zip.old

Once that goes thru let the ota run and reboot once that happens go to settings and check your phone info and you should still be on ED1. Hope somehow this helps
