I just noticed the gold flaking on my camera button is coming off. The top face is completely gone and the sides are chiping away now. The rest of the phone is in excellent condition...no scratches, no drops, etc. This is very saddening :(.

with something like that i usually like to wait as long as possible .. maybe even till 9 10 months .. basically before its out of warranty then turn it in so i never have a 2 year old phone on a 2 year contract :)

Decent point. Doesn't really seem like much would change though either. The issue is unfortunately rather common and the replacement might do the same thing.

Well, for a phone that seems to be very well built, this issue and the "specks getting under the glass" issue do seem to be defects, but they are engineering defects, as opposed to manufacturing defects. In other words, they should not have made the decision to go with the cheaper electro formed plastic button over the anodized aluminum one, and they should have installed a thin gasket of some kind around the edge of the screen.
But they didn't. So every replacement droid you get will be susceptible to these issues.
