Root Gingerbread Posessed??????????

I have had about one reboot per day on GB. Strangest situation. It always happens when I am at the gym, around 7pm. It just so happens I am on a treadmill at the time listening to my mp3s. It doesn't matter what ROM I have (stock Froyo, stock GB, Apex, etc.), it still reboots around that time. The only commonality I have is I am listening to music (either stock player, new Google player, or Mixzing) and I am using the app JEFit (a fitness app).

My friend suggested that perhaps the treadmill is doing something; as they are the type that have the built in wireless heartbeat receivers. I don't think that would do anything, but you never know. I am leaning toward the fitness app causing problems.

Thoughts? Anyone?

I don't shut my phone off very often, but the last few times I have it has been back on when I picked it up. The first time I thought maybe I didn't shut it down or possibly turned it back on and didn't notice. The second time I made sure I turned it off and in the morning it was back on. I have done searches and seems to be a somewhat common issue on other droid sites. I just couldn't find anything in here. Hoping the more people bring this up, the faster it gets fixed. :D

Sorry, I thought you meant a reboot. Not a cold start from off. Didn't mean to hijack your thread. Lol.

I haven't noticed that problem though. Of course, my phone is never off. Actually, now that I think about it, there was a time (I think this is back in the 2.1 days), that my phone would start automatically. I had turned it off for takeoff on a plane. When we cleared 10,000, I pulled my phone out and saw that it was on already. It happened a few times. I would end up pulling the battery on takeoff. I haven't seen the problem since the 2.2 and beyond upgrades.

It's very possible the treadmill is doing something, the belt you walk /run on generates so much static electricity that it needs a ground wire to discharge through, which like everything else, can fail or malfunction.

Some treadmills, even with a good ground wire, will still have a STRONG charge- I even have a video of some fibers caught in this electrical field "stuck" to the rear roller, rotating along with it. (I repair treadmills for a living)

It's far more likely this is the cause of your reboots rather than the music app, that's coincidental since that's just usually what you're using when you're on the treadmill.

It's unlikely the wireless heart rate RECEIVER is the cause, because it's not doing anything that could cause that. It's a receiver, not transmitting anything.

Does it happen with other treadmills of the same model? If no, that one is likely malfunctioning, and you can just use another one at that gym.

Also, if it doesn't happen with other treadmills of the same model, you might want to let the gym know about it so they can repair it, before it damages the electronics of the treadmill.

If yes, then it's just that particular model, and it will continue to happen unless you want to be geeky enough to wear an anti-static wristband while you run...

And those "wireless" anti-static wristbands are pure HOKUM, so don't think that's going to be a less geeky looking way to solve the problem.

What brand/model is it?

I wrote about this in my blog in relation to tablets going through xray machines at the airport, and how they could possibly be damaged, (EXPERT GYM SERVICE AND TREADMILL REPAIR) so it is possible that your phone could be damaged, especially if that charge is strong enough to make it reboot.

Thanks for the data, it confirms some suspicions I've had...

If you have a treadmill at home, you might also want to download the app I wrote to help you maintain it properly;

(reposted from another android forums thread)

I guarantee you will learn at least one or two things you didn't know about treadmills, like how terrible it is for them to be in the garage, what other things you may or may not be doing that are good and bad for it, and what to do if that's the only place you have room for it.

I used Google's app inventor beta to build it, and so it's pretty basic, but if you can look past that, it's got priceless info in it that it took me years to gather, and will save you hundreds of dollars and keep you working out for many years to come.

Best, Eric

Oh, yeah, and it comes with a MONEY BACK GUARANTEE. If you own a treadmill, you need this app.

Sorry I'm so long-winded, but as you can see, I like to over-explain, which is a good indicator of how I wrote the app as well, and why my Grandma was able to just pick it up and use it with no explanation at all...

Hope it helps you, Best, Eric

Mine keeps disabling Wifi all on it's own. Turn it on, use it a little while, then lock it, put it away for a while. Next time I use it wifi(both with the widget and in settings) is off.

Also, phone locks up ALL the time when I use GPS. I'm coming up on my one year mark with my X, I'm almost debating on calling and hoping for an X2 to get me by until September with my upgrade date.
