Honeycomb 3.1

Hey, guys, I've just taken delivery of an Asus Transformer (seems very cute and the construction is quite high quality) but I've just realised my personal Android experience is limited to the HTC Desire and Desire S (ie Froyo & Gingerbread).

The Asus manual isn't up to much and unless I'm missing something, there appears to be no obvious way in 3.1 to copy files from a USB memory stick or SD card to the Transformer.

Any ideas?

Are you trying to copy the file through polaris office or through file manager? Because I ran into the problem where I was trying to save a file to the USB drive in polaris office and it didn't work, I had to save it to the phone's memory and then use the file manager application to copy it to the USB drive.

I was trying to import via File Manager from the USB stick. Works fine via Polaris (weird). Just getting used to Android, I guess.

Be nice if there were some HP printer drivers, I got used to printing wirelessly to the printer upstairs!

I have a couple of apps on my Evo that work to print wirelessly to my HP printer: HP iPrint PDF, HP iPrint Photo, and PrintBot. I havn't tried these on my TF but I would think they would work.

Install the TF drivers on your PC. An easy way to do this is to download and install Asus Sync from the Asus website. Then plug your TF into a USB port on your PC. At that point, Windows explorer will handle your TF just like an external drive as long as the TF is turned on and unlocked. You can drag and drop files, rename files, delete files, create files, etc. Both the internal and external SD cards are recognized. If you want to sideload apps, use either Asus Sync or a freeware PC program called Android Injector.

Alternatively, you can instruct your PC to recognize your TF as a media device. In this case, you interface with it using Windows Media Player. However, I dragged and dropped 13 GB of MP3 files and album art from my PC to my TF and the TF stock music player got all the covers and genres right.

From reading this thread it seems I can't actually manage files within my TF - is this correct. I have to link it to a pc and use the file manager on there?

While I'm here can someone tell me how to copy and paste text from one application eg browser to anoether such as a document or everonote?

You may be able to tell i'm new to android and although some features see very good other basic stuff is simply baffling.

You can manage files on your TF. I don't recall what came stock with the TF, but I believe there was something just called 'File Manager'. If not, you can download and use Astro File Manager from the market (personally, I prefer the UI of Astro). These are the Android equivalent of Windows Explorer. They allow you to move, rename, delete etc files on your TF. You only need to connect to a PC if you want to move files to or from the PC (you can also use Dropbox or something similar to do this).

To copy text just long press on the text. You'll get a pop up and some 'sliders' that will allow you to select the text you want, then press 'copy'.
Go to where you want to paste the text, long press and press the 'paste' popup.
