Root Unrevoked 3 still sits at "waiting for device

maybe this will help. or maybe this is what you guys tried. I got this working on my windows 7 x64 and xp machines.

http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-evo-4g/91831-www-unrevoked-com-went-live-4.html

follow those instructions exactly as the first post tells you to do. But there are steps missing. After you'd finished those instructions, boot your phone into the bootloader and go to Recovery. You should hear the USB connect sound from your PC again, and the PC will ask you to install drivers AGAIN. point windows to that unzipped folder.

Next, reboot your phone all the way to the lock screen. Again, windows will ask for drivers. Point it to the unzipped folder AGAIN.

Basically, there are 3 USB modes your phone can be in. Windows sees each mode as a separate device; that's why you need to install those drivers 3x. Once you do that, you should be all set, and unrevoked will recognize your phone.

I spent hours figuring this out when I first tried to root (with unrevoked). And then shortly after that, I realized unrevoked was not a full jailbreak, so I simplerooted :) however, the effort you spend to get the drivers installed is not wasted. You need them for doing adb work as well.

-edit-
getting the drivers installed on your PC has nothing to do with your android version. the drivers work for both. As for rooting with unrevoked, yeah if you're already on stock 2.2, you can't root.

Just spotted that Unrevoked 3 doesn't work on Froyo.

So I have a failed Froyo update that I can't re-run, that's broken Flash and which I can't root.

Somebody get me an iPhone.

well sorry to say but you deserve nothing more then and iphone if you are so ignorant and don't educate yourself a bit. all you had to do is read few thread titles here and on xda to know that the new 2.2 OTA can't be rooted yet and there is no going back after updating. you should have rooted first. Simpleroot is your friend...well, not yours, anyways, it's too late for you now.

unrevoked really will nt recognse my phone, ive installed the drivers exactly how it states & when i reboot & run unrevoked it just says waiting for device....
:-(

have you tried and install htc synch and then uninstall levaing the drivers. sometimes this has worked for some. also you may want to try it a few more times. unrevoked for others have had to try it multiple time to get it to work.

Just thought I would post my solution to this problem, it goes off the post earlier that said there are several usb modes that the driver needs to be installed for.

Once you have followed the instructions to install unrevoked (I found these at XDA) boot up your phone to the stage where usb debugging and charge only are selected. Now go to your device manager, and follow these stages.

Under "other devices" right click "ADB" and select "update driver software>
> select "brouse my computer...">
>select "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer>
>if you already installed the drivers in the bootloader, as is listed in the tutorial for installing unrevoked then you should see an "android phone" option, select this and press next>
>Select "android bootloader interface" and selct next and install.

*You must have free space on your phone to install unrevoked, make sure you have free space, and especially that the low space icon is not showing.*

Hope this helps
