Hi guys!
So, the time has come when I will move on from my beloved Desire.
And I am sorry to say (and I expect the usual bashing and sarcastic comments) but I will most likely be upgrading to an iPhone 4.
I am posting here for 2 main reasons:
1. To discuss my reasons for moving on
2. To describe how much I have loved my Desire and this forum
1. On June 1st I am eligible for an upgrade and can get quite a good trade in price from CPW. I like to upgrade when I can and had a look around the market but the newest HTC phones don't really do anything for me if I'm honest - the upgrade would not be massive.
Since I have ventured into the smart phone world, I have had two Android phones and loved them. But iOS, although it does have its bad points, it is a very good OS and I feel I should give it a go. As well as the nice UI (I know to everyones tastes) and the awesome hardware of the iPhone 4, there is one massive reason I am choosing the iPhone 4 and that is the range of apps. Particularly medical apps. I am a medical student and while in the wards I end up dragging around endless text books, pharmaceutical books etc as quick reference. Likewise, when on the train/bus/in lectures I usually haul round a load of books to look up medicine. However, many of these books are available as iOS apps. This is obviously not needed for everyone so but it is a massive selling point. And there is nowhere near this sort of selection in the Android Market. And through the magic of Jailbreaking (just like I rooted my Desire) I can get...
But as I said, the iPhone 4 is also an incredible piece of hardware - camera, screen, build quality. Reception issues will be no biggy really as I always have had cases for smart phones as I'm a clumsy oaf so I will have a case on my iPhone.
2. My Desire has been a wonderful phone. Starting off, battery life was a bit disappointing but a few tweaks and it got much better. Then I rooted and through kernels and custom ROMs I got insane battery life. As well as insane performance and lots of fun. The camera is pretty damn good. Agree or disagree, the iPhone 4 is slightly better but the Desire camera really is quite awesome, especially if you remove the small cover.
Then I come onto Sense. Its like Marmite, some love it, some hate it. But for me I liked the way it bought lots of things together. I have experimented with custom ROMS, currently on MIUI but I will always love Sense.
But then one thing I really need to do is talk about this forum. What a fantastic place it is. Everyone on here is stupidly helpful. SURoot, Eddy OS, Rastaman to name but a few have helped me several times to really unlock what my Desire could really do through the process of rooting.
So to them, and everyone else who has helped me, thank you very much.
I will continue to browse these forums and try to help people as I now know a fair bit about rooting. And I like to keep track of what people are capable of unlocking on the Desire.
I know this post is going to attract the usual iOS comments and stuff but I just wanted to say thank you and discuss my reasons for upgrading and moving on from HTC/Android.
