Root "Car Mode" constantly and randomly turns on.

Alrighty so I've been running CM7 for a while and last night "car mode" kept coming on randomly (and showing that irritating steering wheel in the notif bar as well as turning the screen on.)

So today I finally got sick of it and did a full wipe, and installed CM7.0.3 stable.
It just started happening again. I've installed all of my normal apps which have, at least until now, behaved fine, and the only superuser app I have running is superpower.

Anybody have any idea what's going on?

EDIT: I've even tried going into root explorer into system/app and renaming the car home apk, it still comes up.

I had the same thing happening to me. But I was on a sense rom, I was having all kinds of other issues though too...battery would get so hot I could barely touch it, phone would crash. But the most annoying was that "car mode" popping up.

I ended up flashing a new kernal and it went away. You might wanna try that.

Urge to dance had this issue. You may want to pm him but I think he ended up just getting a new phone

I had this same problem whenever I plugged in my phone to USB charger connection. For some reason Car Home application came up and overrode the volume of whatever I was playing to be the loudest possible volume.

Usually a restart would fix this but after a while it would pop back on when plugged in.

I removed the Car Home .apk and it seemed to fix this issue.

I read somewhere that there is a magnet in some car docks that trigger a sensor in the phone to load the Car Home App - not entirely sure if this could be the case here but worth a thought.

I am having this same issue. I was running Kings GB R4 when it started happening. I figured it was a glitch in the ROM so I flashed a stock ROM. Still did it. Wiped everything again and no dice. Tired some other ROMs and it still didn't fix it. Then I restored a nand and that didn't work either. I get up this morning and figured I would flash back to stock(rooted) and call #2 sprint CS and see if they have a fix. Well some weird shit went down when I tried to flash a stock ROM and I thought my recovery was broken. I rebooted and the car dock thing hasn't happened yet since. Mind you this was only 3 hours ago but I think it is gone. Before anytime I plugged the phone in or unplugged it the car dock would come up. Also the speaker on the phone would be on for any calls and I would always have to turn the speaker off before I could talk.....

Anyway, I was at a point where I had two options. Call #2 and see if they can fix it over the phone....or unroot and bring it in to Sprint. A 3rd option is to give it a few days to see if it goes away like it did with me. Urge to dance also had this and he said his went away mysteriously as well.

PS...if you call Sprint(#2) I would recommend you flashing to a stock ROM before you do. They might walk you through a lot of steps and you want the interface to be common with what they are talking about. CM7 might have the same stuff but arranged differently...FWIW....

No I never got a new phone, it just eventually stopped. One thing you can try is a different kernel but I don't think that will fix it because I tried three different ROMs all with a different kernel and it did it on all three. After it stopped it did it one more time then stopped and haven't seen it for a month. By far this is the most aggravating thing my phone did, I would like to know what caused it so if anyone unroots and brings it to Sprint and they know what it was please tell me.

EDIT: I heard there was an apk named CarHomeLauncher.apk that you can rename or delete and it will keep it from going in since thats the app that launches the carhome app. I have never found it and trust me I have looked everywhere.

Interesting... I never had this symptom until I started running King's GB R4 as well.
