Root Where do you download adb?

I got HTC Sync from the Thunderbolt support page on HTC's website.

When I plug my phone in, it says "No device connected" in the HTC Sync window, and in the taskbar tray it says "HTC Sync port of ADR6400L is not responding. Please disconnect cable and reconnect after 10 seconds."

wth?

(I have windows 7, but the video you linked above says downloading Sync from the website makes it work...)

half the stuff he talks about doesnt exist. He doesnt have a link to the adb for dummies site he references several times...

*EDIT* OK so I just read off his video rather than finding the site myself. I got to the point where i'm supposed to go into the command prompt and check to see what adb devices I have installed

His just said "List of devices attached" and then listed a bunch of letters and numbers followed by "device"

When I did it on my computer, it first says "adb server is out of date. killing..." then "* daemon started successfully *" and then listed a device, but the letters and numbers are different from his...

Link to download:
adf.ly/Xfyl

Wait 5 seconds and click the "skip ad" button in the top right corner and the download should begin

Yeah I got that part, but there's no link to the forum page he refers to.

anyway, i did that part, and as I said, got to the first part with the command prompt, and i don't get the same stuff he does when I enter "adb devices"
