Dropped my HTC Gratia into the toilet

Hi,

I managed to drop my phone into the toilet. (yes, it was clean :p)
The indicator underneath the battery is red but battery's indicator is white.
I let it dry for a bit and tried to turn it on and it turned on. Tho the screen was a bit weird on one side.
Is it possible that if I let it dry for couple of hours the screen would start to work normally again or probably not?

Thanks

It's possible, but be careful. The more you try before it's completely dry, the less likely the chance it will be okay. Moister indicators aren't always immediate, so even though it shows white doesn't mean it's undamaged. Your best bet is to remove the battery and put the phone in a bag of uncooked rice for at least 24 hours (the rice will absorb the moisture). If, after that it still has problems, you most likely will need to repair it.

I removed the battery as fast as I could after I took the phone out of the toilet.
Too bad I can't get any rice where I'm at :(

Rice is clean and cheap but any desiccant will do. You know those little bags of crystals that come with any electronic device? What you need to do is set up an environment where everything else is more hygroscopic than your phone. You could also wrap the phone loosely in paper towels and have a fan blow over the top (not directly on it ... you don't want to COOL the phone as this will cause condensation.) This isn't as good as rice, but it will help extract some of the moisture.

I'm able to get some rice in a few days. All I can do right now is wrap some paper towels around it and let it dry like that.
The problem is that I'm in military. I can't go to a market and I don't have anything useful here. But I'm getting home in a few days and even if the phone works, I'm still going to put it into a bag of rice just in case.

Your best bet is to not use it until then.

BTW, Thank you for your service!

Sorry to be off topic, but that is one of the coolest avatars I've ever seen!!! And I dig your custom title LOL!!!! :D

And to the OP - yea stick it in rice, and leave it alone for a few days. Good luck!!! PS I am ultra careful with my phones when visiting the loo...I'd hate to have to put my hand into the toilet to retrieve anything...make sure you wash your hands good!!! ;)
