if you want to figure out what is using the battery you want to install an app called "spare parts" and in the app click on "battery history" it will tell you how often your phone is running, sleeping, and what is keeping the phone awake...

as for fixing this one...i've already suggested SBFing the phone instead of just doing a factory reset/rooting...

if you want to send the phone back you're gonna have to do it anyway...so you might as well find out if it works...

What's fbs???

I've asked that a few times
Most people suggest I just exchange it
I'll check out the ap too

an SBF is a complete reflash of your phone...done the same way Motorola would install Android on your device...its the most complete way to reset your phone that is possible...

as for exchanging...now that you've rooted and started messing around you're probably going to want to SBF anyway...because technically they could deny your exchange if you're rooted...because it voids your warranty...

He has a good point. With being rooted you should really SBF anyway before sending the phone back. And I would suggest seeing how the SBF effects your phone. Also, have you considered upgrading to GB? Or are you already on GB? I think I speak for most everyone when I say GB >>> Froyo

SBF'ing your phone is very easy. And when messing with the stuff we mess with it will be essential to learn this at one point or another. Rooler has an awesome guide along with all the files you will need. If you plan on using a mac, let me know and I can help you get setup with a linux distro and all that good stuff. SBF instructions can be found here

I've done a hard reset then formatted sd card. A hard reset puts me at factory stock and the sd card is completely empty after format.
If i do that again when i send phone back they'll never know I was rooted.

I am on 2.3.340 software android 2.2

I thought gingerbread wasn't out yet? I haven't gotten a notice to update, and I don't want to update to it til its been rooted.

I have had too many issues with the phone already and now my batt is literally dying as it sits there. Among other problems.

So I wanted to just send it back and exchange it, as so many have suggested i should do so on other threads. I was seeking for advice as to how to go about it with out it being a hastle.

Like- what should I say? This is my third phone and getting through the store must be diff than getting them through customer service. I just can't figure out the problem

wrong...you will still be rooted...you have to SBF to remove superuser access..unless you unroot through z4...but that doesn't always work right...

it hasn't gone widespread over the air (OTA) yet...but its out...and rooted

and have you looked in the battery history like i suggested you do??

and the way to do that is to SBF

you're just going to explain your problems...hopefully there will also be things that you can SHOW them to prove something is wrong...

however if you're doing it in person at a sore than i HIGHLY recommend an SBF...because once the tech gets a hold of your phone it will be very easy for him to notice superuser in your app drawer...

Like met said, you will still be rooted. They will notice. And I wouldn't recommend sending it back until you SBF to get rid of superuser for good. Then when you SBF you will probably notice that it will be all better. If not then it's probably a hardware issue and you should then and only then send it back.

You will tell them exactly what's up: phone battery sucks. Doesn't last but a few hours idle on extended. They will at first suggest you do a factory reset. Inform them you already have.

SBF'ing isn't a big hassle. It's rather easy to be honest especially if you follow the instructions in that thread.

i called them earlier and they did a hard reset with me.
I've reset the phone so many times though and i just unroot with z4root and it gets ride of superuser and the root perfectly. :/

they told me that they'd send me a refurbished phone though .... So i haven't agreed to it yet

SBF...or you can continue to wonder what is wrong with your phone...

i don't want to sound mean...or be too blunt...but there is nothing else anyone can do to help you or your phone unless you will listen to us and just SBF the device...

- you've had problems with the phone in the past...
- people told you to reset and root...i suggested that it wouldn't fix your problem, and that you should SBF instead....
- you didnt take my suggestion and still have problems...
- now everyone else is telling you to take my suggestion and SBF...

the choice is yours...send the phone back as is...or SBF and possibly fix the problems...

Can I ask what your hesitations are with SBF'ing your phone?

Im obviously taking suggestions and trying to work things the way people are recoending.
I called after I posted and was looking up other solutions.
I can't just jump into doing stuff with out trying to find more information.

I am not against fbs-ing I just don't see the need for it after a hard reset and sd card format.
a hard reset is the same as a restore meaning it deletes all things and sets them back to " stock"
And a ds card format does a complete " erase" of all information.
That's why I ask what does it actually do...
Not trying to seem hard headed or insult anyone by asking questions

and im trying to tell you that this is incorrect...a hard reset deletes all your apps and such...deletes all the app data yes...but it does NOT re-install the whole Operating system...

an SBF actually re-installs your OS on the phone...it does a complete re-flash of the system files of the phone...not just its data..

And a ds card format does a complete " erase" of all information.

im just saying that i suggested this before...and we are trying to help you...but instead of taking the advice it seems like you are trying to tell us that we are wrong...

the SD card and the system memory are in completely different areas of the device.
Formatting the SD card will only erase YOUR stuff
System wipe only erases YOUR data
A full SBF will erase all data on the system side, including the errant code that is messing up your battery life, and will reinstall a fresh, non-corrupted operating system.
When you do an SBF, it will fix the software issues you are having, nothing else will work. This is what Verizon store will do when they take it in on trade and your device, after going through SBF, will be in somebody else's hands. This is what you will get if you get a trade in. So, to recap, if someone else sent in a phone they had somewhere improper, you might get that one. You will NOT get a NEW phone. You will get a phone someone else did something to and wouldn't take advice to fix.
i'm not making a judgement, but doing the SBF will get rid of any question there might be about user error and might just fix your device. If it doesn't fix it, all evidence of messing with it will be gone and you still have a warranty. just SBF the dang thing and be over with it. If you don't, they will probably void your warranty and you'll pay a lot more for the trade-in.

As we are all stating a factory reset will not fix a corrupted system file which is most likely your issue. It ONLY wipes your data/cache. ONLY. This is why you're still rooted after a factory reset.

So from here the only option you really have is to SBF your phone.

and after that...i would suggest running the phone for at least a few days to a week without installing every app under the sun...just to see if the phone operates...

THEN...if its running well i would slowly start to replace apps one or a few at a time and then seeing how the phone reacts..

I have flashed the sbf file too many times due to screwing up something. That's what is great with the x is she is very forgiving. With the sbf we can just start all over and try to fix whatever we did wrong. As a matter of fact I did it this morning to get a clean install of the latest gb rom. And she is running fabulously. I for one cannot risk Verizon finding out I root and rom. I can't afford to shell out bucks to replace this thing. If in fact you wouldn't mind buying a refurb at full retail price because they found root information on your returned x please feel free to blow is off and ship it back as is.

Brute347 the need to SBF in this case is really simple. If something got screwed up on your phone, however it happened, then a factory reset isn't going to fix a corrupted file system. It's going to leave you with an out-of-the-box phone with a corrupted file system.

THAT is why you need to SBF your phone. You can factory reset till the cows come home. it's not going to fix it. The file system is corrupted. SBF'ing is your only option for fixing it. All a factory reset does is take your STOCK, UNROOTED, UNMODIFIED phone and erases all your settings, data, and contacts.

If your rooted, romed, and/or themed, a factory reset is a desperate mans dream of a fix.
