What battery notification bar app to use for Gingerbread?

Ok so I just went through day 1 on Gingerbread and I had mine rooted previously so was using a custom icon for my battery that read the percentage.

Keeping Gingerbread stock, I used Gauge battery widget so it would display in the notification bar. I thought I had a 100% charge for 6 hours which really impressed me....until I realized the widget wasn't updating. lol I removed it and reinstalled it...not sure it's completely accurate though.

Does anyone have a Gingerbread compatible notification bar app they'd recommend or should I just root and use the one I had before?

Both developers are active in this forum. :D

Hey, I resemble that remark! :D ;) :)

By the way, our very kind Master Yoda friend helped guide me through installing the rooted GB last night. So, I'm finally rocking GB .596 on my DX (about time, Steven would say :p).

I had put off installing the GB leaks so that I could continue to support BattMonX on stock Froyo. But with the looming GB OTA, I figured I needed to get on board and retain root.

I am finally seeing how the app works on GB now and I am aware of the issue about having to do the "locate files" thing to keep the LED on while the screen is on. This should be an easy fix that I'll tackle soon. I am also noticing that the LED doesn't always re-light while the screen is on (the actual "LED is Always On" setting is getting un-checked). I'll figure these things out and have a new version up as soon as I can.

Cheers and thanks!

I just updated from 573 to 596 today and it's running very smooth. Had to sbf to froyo, then got a nasty bootloop that wouldn't go away until I formatted data. Luckily I had backed up via TIBU first. Lots of work but since all roms will be based on 596 from this point forward, probably worth the work. :D

Gotta say, I REALLY like BattMonX! This app seems really really accurate and extremely customizable! Not to mention the fact that it doesn't drain my battery as some other apps or widgets that always run like this can do. I got the donate version already :)

Scary Alien, is there any way to change the colors of the battery in the notification bar?

I like the look of the default a lot but I couldn't read the battery percentage easily (old age maybe) so I changed it to "Use Large Number Icons". The red and green clash slightly with my nice Gingerbread look though. I love how customizable the LED lights are...any chance an update will allow notification bar icon color to be as customizable? Or is it already there and I'm just a nitwit?

Kudos on the app though it's fantastical! :D

JB, thank you very much...I really appreciate your kind words. I might have gone a little overboard, lol, in adding all of the options and customizations that people have requested ;) :D. Thank you very much for purchasing the donate version.

Yes and maybe... ;) Let me explain. I originally started-out with battery icons, both with and without lightning bolt symbols (to indicate charging) for nearly each color that you can choose in the color palette. Then, I created dark status bar icons for each of the above (I think that's 48 icon images now).

Now, along comes Steven (again! :D) installing the GB leak and sees (as I can now on my DX after Steven helped me install it Saturday night), that the percentage number on GB is really small. So, I created a set of 200 files (layer-lists actually), one green set for a light status bar, and a green set for a dark status bar. It was too daunting to build a set of 200 layer-list files for each color :)eek:) so I stuck with plain, old green (and I stayed with the red number balloon like in Froyo--these are actually two sets of 10 digits that I build-up in the layer-lists, plus a special number 100 icon).

So, could build additional sets of the large number icons, but didn't want to build a few thousand :)eek:)additional layer-list files for each color, but I might be willing to build another color set if you really want. Any ideas / requests?

By the way, I was hoping (and did a ton of research and testing) to try to dynamically build my status bar icons (in Java) without having to build separate layer-list files, but I was unsuccessful and my posts on two separate Android / Google Java forums have gone unanswered :(. I still hold-out hope.

I like the look of the default a lot but I couldn't read the battery percentage easily (old age maybe) so I changed it to "Use Large Number Icons". No you are doing it right...if you and a few others can come to a consensus as to a few colors you'd like to be able to choose from, I'd be willing to include some more of them (i.e., for the large number format icons).

Kudos on the app though it's fantastical! :D

Thank you again. I appreciate the feedback and support.

Cheers!

P.S. The problems that I had with the LED-is-always-on setting disappeared after a lot of fruitless debugging and I realized that the GB upgrade did "something" to my preferences. A fresh de-install / re-install seem to have corrected things for me. Now, I just have the auto-locate (minor) issue to fix.

Ok, day two on BattMonX and I still can't say enough good things about it. My favorite battery app I've ever used to date :)

Honestly, I like the style and look of the regular one before Gingerbread shrinks it. So one like that but larger OR personally I'd really like one that matched the blueish look of Gingerbread. But blue is my favorite color so I may be very partial to that? lol

Thanks for your quick response and help on this! I really have enjoyed your app and appreciate your reply here :D

Thank you again for the kind words! :)

I don't know / understand why the GB release made the number portion of the status bar icons so much smaller... I'm still getting used to the new color schemes myself (they certainly did change things up from what Froyo used).

I'll keep your GB color preferences in mind for the next version.

Cheers!
