Hi all

I recently got my Xperia X10 to replace my SE W995. There are some things the X10 doesn't do that the old one did, a few things which i know are impossible like bbc iplayer and if the phone is off, the alarm doesn't turn it back on, (something even the nokias of 10 years ago could do); but something that might be possible is improved SMS management

1) finding out when an SMS was sent?

If the phone has been off or out-of-signal, and when it comes back in several messages arrive, on the w995 (and other phones I have had) you can go into "message details" and see the time the message was sent by the originator. I can find no way of doing it on the X10, nor has any "sms manager" type app I have tried been able to either.

2) bulk-delete

Nor is there a way to bulk-delete messages, again trivial on the w995 (looking at a certain message, choose delete older or delete newer), on the x10 its one-by-one, i did find an app to delete all by contact, but thats not what i want. i want all by contact older than a certain message.

Any ideas please ?

Just saw this - BBC News App Now Available For Android

But it requires 2.2 or higher.

If you want more messaging options, I suggest downloading a different message app. I think the most popular is Handcent MMS. It will give you the ability like to get a delivery receipt for a message....and many many more options

To bulk delete is easy. Open Messages, click left Menu button, chose option to delete several, it will bring up a list with check boxes beside each message, and a button at the top that says Mark All. Mark All and delete all.

Any ideas please ?

Alan

Hope that helps.

Hi, thanks for your response

The BBC news app does actually work, but the iPlayer app needs 2.2 or higher, and flash. Originally Sony said they would not do any updates after 2.1, but I read elsewhere they may do 2.3 eventually. I'll wait patiently (since I'm in a 24 month contract! ;) )

Thanks, I'll have a look at that.

Ah, I'd never noticed that option, though unfortunately it still doesn't do what I want. I don't want to delete everything from a particular contact / conversation, rather everything older than (say) a month. On the w995 I could just highlight a message and say "mark all older", I can't seem to do this on the X10. Sorry if I didn't make that clear initially.

Anyway, thanks again for replying - I will investigate handcent in the marketplace and report back.

Cheers

I have now found a way to delete many messages without zapping an entire convo - with an App called MyPhoneExplorer - which is acutally designed for synching your phone to a pc. It also allows bulk archiving of sms, file transfer, all sorts - all over wifi, bluetooth or usb. a lot better than the sony ericsson pc suite that comes with the phone.
