Root Can't get past HTC Incredible boot screen after Restore.

Ok, I'm kind of freaking out.

I rooted my phone today, and everything was fine. I installed SkyRaider 1.7, then 1.9 like you're supposed to. I don't remember why, but I decided to restore the system back to Android 2.1. So I went into ROM Manager and did a restore. But after doing that, I can't get past the white screen that says HTC Incredible.

So I did the whole Volume Down + Power deal to get to those options. I tried to restore it that way and it didn't work. So then I tried to do a factory restore, with no luck. Then I wiped the whole SD card, mounted the card on Windows, and put SkyRaider 1.7 on there and tried to install it through the partitions menu in ClockworkMod Recovery. Nothing. Still getting stuck at that screen.

I know the phone isn't bricked and somehow there's a way to get it working agian, but I'm at a loss. I really need this phone to work. Really badly. And I'm not about to go out and buy a new one.

Anyone have any solutions?

I don't have a solution, thats what my phone did when I installed Sr. Always came right back when I went to a stock 2.1 backup though. Interested in seeing how this gets fixed. You don't have a custom kernel in your backup do you? Those stick my phone at the same screen as well. Maybe someone has a stock nand backup you could download and restore too?

He would get all of your contacts, apps, everything. Just a heads up.

I'd just say to follow this: http://androidforums.com/all-things...ideo-howto-unroot-incredible-downgrading.html

It'll take away the root, and you will essentially have a brand new phone. But a working, new phone is better than one that doesn't work.

I'm not an asshole, I wouldn't do anything with them. I would delete them.

Anyway, I tried doing what that guy did on the video, and it didn't work. When I get to that screen after pressing Vol. Down + Power, the loading bar on the right side never shows up. The green text that comes up quickly says there's No Image or Wrong Image.

I also tried it through the black screen with the green text where you can choose with zip file to load off the SD card, and it always aborts the install.

Im deleting all of my stuff and then making a nandroid for him.

Thank you. I don't have high hopes right now, seeing as how nothing else has worked, but I'll try it anyway.

Please some one help. I installed a new ROM using rom mangaer and when it rebooted it got stuck on the HTC Incredible white screen. I took the battery out after giving it a long time to see if it would finish start up. After it didn't I tried rebooting it, recovery, i litterally tried everything you could in the ROM Manager startup thing. I need my phone to work VERY badly for work etc.. I don't care if I lose EVERYTHING I just need it to work. so can someone please help me?!

Refer to this thread http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/340517-im-so-fed-up.html. There is a ton of information in there. With everybody's help his phone is back working again. See if that helps and let us know.

Yeah I am having the exact issue and very upset with myself.

Used ROM manager last night to update my Virtuous ROM I've been running because I've been having various problems with my phone (Facebook app not working most of the time, unable to get to many websites, many apps not updating their content (Fox News for example).

Unfortunately after updating the ROM, it went to the HTC Incredible boot screen and hung there. I'm looking over the recommended thread to see what if anything I can do to extricate myself from the mess I'm in.

Nandroid restore or a full wipe and reload. Enter recovery directly via hboot.

I'm truly not a total noob...but it HAS been a while since I did my whole root thing and was more "up" on all the terminology etc...

I have Titanium Backup Pro and ROM manager.

In the "old" days before ROM manager, I had to boot into Clockwork Mod to make a Nanroid Backup...now you do that through ROM manager (right?) IIRC.

So I was able to boot into HBOOT and do a restore. However, it didn't exactly restore all my home screens etc. Was able to reinstall ROM manager and from there I am trying the "manage backups" option to reinstall the last backup I have.

IIRC this ~should~ get my phone to look/feel exactly like it was before all this mess began...then I can begin to troubleshoot my other issues.

BTW: exactly if you do a NANDROID, of what use is Titanium Backup? I have it but have never exactly understood the purpose of having both backup systems in place.

I guess that you would use Titanium if you wiped your phone, rooted it then wanted all your previous apps + data...right?

Right. Titanium is used after flashing a Rom to retrieve all your apps. Nandroid is used for those "oh sh!#" moments or if you get tired of your current setup and want to return to a previous one you liked. Titanium can be set to auto backup on a regular basis so its the gold standard for keeping apps and data up to snuff.

You could have also just wiped and reflashed a Rom and then used titanium to get back to your apps as long as your backup is current. Either route works.

And they can be used together. Say you nandroid back to a Rom you were on 3 months ago. Cool but you have a bunch of new apps you've added since that time and of course they wont be in the nand restore. But once you're restored, you can then use Titanium to restore "missing apps" and it'll bring you right back up to date app-wise. Just gotta be sure to use the auto backup in Titanium in order to be current.

Thanks Iowa, you've been super helpful and I appreciate it. I was pretty sure that's the way these two worked, but glad to have someone confirm it for me.

Thankfully, my Ti Backup is on auto pilot!

This is my question actually. I've been having some phone "issues" lately and I think I am going to try to go back to as blank of a slate as I can (hopefully that will get rid of my issues). So I need to wipe and flash then use Ti restore. To be clear...this will NOT restore all my home screens, boot animations etc just all my apps and data.

In order to do this, I need to boot into HBOOT and use the factory reset option...correct? This will give me factory fresh + root then do all the other stuff...

Thanks again.

The factory reset option in hboot is another thing altogether. When I was referring you to hboot earlier, I meant for you to choose the "recovery" option which, when you are rooted, opens Clockwork. That's where you can do the restore (nandroid). Identical thing you are doing in Rom Manager, you're just doing it right at the source instead of using Rom Manager which is really just a shell to Clockwork. It has all the same options, just a more "app-like" feel to it. But sometimes a phone wont boot so Clockwork itself is the only option. Being kinda old skool, I always use Clockwork directly and bypass Rom Manager but that's another story.

Anyway, I would recommend going to Clockwork itself. Wipe data, cache, and Dalvik cache (under advanced menu). Then immediately proceed to load your Rom of choice from the SD card. Once you are booted up, head over to the market and get Titanium and do your restore with it. If you've been having problems I would highly recommend restoring only market apps. Definitely don't restore any system data. The only way your homescreen etc would be restored is if you are using a launcher such as Launcher Pro, ADW etc. Then it would because they are apps with data. Otherwise all that is a function of the system settings within a particular Rom which you aren't going to restore in order to avoid potential conflicts.

Anyone who's getting stuck on the white splash screen should do one of the two following options:

1.) Retry loading Rom with a new FULL wipe of data/cache/Dalvik cache. Obviously, you must access recovery through hboot while in that condition and wipe/flash directly in your custom recovery.

2.) Nandroid restore if #1 fails on multiple efforts.

Also, if you are stepping up to Roms that include Sense 3.0, you will need to update your bootloader to 0.92 if you happen to still be running 0.77 as it will NOT boot otherwise and you'll end up with the white screen no matter how many times you try wiping/flashing.
