Hate to tell ya, that RADIO SHACK that you posted the link for....that coupon generates ONE BAR CODE, for ONE TIME USE, and its ALWAYS for $10.00 off.

Radio Shack gets an authorization off that coupon when you use it, and its invalid after that.

If you want a REAL coupon from Radio Shack that WILL WORK, be a first time visitor to radioshack.com (erase your cookies if you've already been there), and use an email address that you haven't already submitted, and you can get a VALID $10 off coupon...............But then again, the FINE PRINT in the coupon states "NOT VALID ON PHONE SALES OR PHONE ORDERS"....you might luck out at the store, and your certificate might be turned away........

been there, done it.

Radio Shack has the V for $149 through June 4-- In store only.
LG Optimus V for Virgin Mobile : Cell phones | RadioShack.com

There is a $10.00 off in store purchase that may/should/might apply

Saving with Wendy: Radio Shack: $10/$40 in Store Coupons

Shameless plug:

if you do get a Virgin Mobile phone, and you use this code during activation, we will each get a free hour of calls..

Actually, it says not valid for online sales and "phone orders"-- not sales.
If you look at their add for the additional $10 they show mobile phones in the illustration.

Maybe some one will go to Radio Shack, and if their local store is out of stock, they won't get the phone either.

Nonetheless, I thought some people might be interested, and if the phone is in stock by June 4th, they might be willing to risk a sheet of paper and a spot or two of ink and see if they get another $10.00 off.

My MAIN POINT was . . .

That if one doesn't register on the radioshack.com websbite, and print their OWN coupon, the $10 off coupon will FAIL authorization when you go to use it.

Using COUPON codes off random websites rarely has a success rate, as the coupon codes were meant for one time use.

but sometimes it depends on the salesperson you get, and how they take the $10 off in their POS system.

Good luck either way.

went to radio shack.. and they wanted me to activate right there on the spot. said they couldnt sell the phone if i didnt. i am a do it yourself kind of guy and my wife, having got hers at target was able to bring it home and do it herself.

they also said something about how the request goes into an auto bank, and theres only one person to fill every order so it might take up to 4 or 6 weeks before my number ports over.... but my wifes did it in like 7 hours overnight.

any other stores with the same deal or a better one on this phone that you have seen? i would really rather be able to purchase it and do it myself instead of relying on some auto service that might take a while.

The guys at Radio Shack have a history of bullying people when they purchase prepaid phones. its not required but some stores insist (more than likely to capture your personal information and phone number for a future mailing list as well).
My first Optimus, I argued with the salesperson 10 minutes that it was a PREPAID phone, and that I was giving it to my sister and she could activate it herself (which I was using it for myself). After I insisted an activation was not necessary, the store manager got involved and just sold me the phone.......they did the same to me when I got my Virgin Mobile broadband2go device. they insisted on activating it.....when the ONLY way to activate it was to put the USB device in a computer, and activate it that way.....So, it goes to show you the salespeople at radio shacks are know it alls (yet dorks at the same time).

they love to sell you addons and replacement warranties as well.

Furthermore, porting a number from another carrier can be done with a simple call to customer service Mine was done the next day.
the call rep got all my information about my carrier i was porting from (ATT), and in 2 days it was ported.

I went to 3 RadioShacks. Each had different policies about activating prepaid phones.

the first one (a corporate owned store in a mall), insisted activating it. I didn't buy one there.

A second one (a corporate standalone store), "encouraged" me to activate, but didn't "insist". I bought it there.

The third store was a franchised store in a standalone location, and the guy said there was no "policy" stating they had to activate prepaid phones UNLESS you were buying two or more.............(some policy about the patriot act and anti-terrorism----I guess well terrorists use prepaid cell phones for only a short period, then destroy them??????)

So, policy varies from store to store.

yeah i didnt go for it, figuring i might be able to find it somewhere else... but if i cant i will just go back and argue my way into getting it on my own terms. haha.

thanks greg.

Ask them if they had anyone verify that their porting terminal is plugged in to the power switch. If so, suggest unplugging it, wait at least 30 seconds and plug it back in. Are they set to auto update the latest Microsoft patches? Are they running the latest drivers? Offer to sell them some antivirus software or a service contract to blow some dust out of their porting terminal.

Or just ask if you could have a written copy of their 4-6 wk porting "service" to forward to the FCC.

It is still early, but this summer is the target date for 1 day porting on simple ports.

Meanwhile, they do seem to have the best price at the time. Home Shopping Network isn't too bad if you want the gel case and charger.

If the ad at radio shack is in a "PRINT" ad, then you can take it to wal-mart or target and get them to match the price.

usually has to be the ad in the local newspaper, not an internet ad.

yeah i am gonna stop at walmart and target while i am out to see if they have in store deals going on... if not then the war with radio shack is on.

Radio Shack can be a NIGHTMARE to buy a phone from. Last year, I bought my V from them, after FIGHTING with the clerk who said I HAD TO BUY A MINUTE CARD in order to buy they phone. She said it was because of terrorism and they were required to track who bought the phones. BULLSHIT. I persisted and told her no, then I agreed to let her register me. I GAVE HER MY INFORMATION: Halle Berry, 123 Main Street, Hollywood, CA. The clerk then got mad and reluctantly just sold me the phone.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE Radio Shack and will NEVER choose to shop there. I even contacted their corporate office about these tactics, but heard NOTHING from them.

Did anyone get any message beyond:
Thank you for registering for the RadioShack email newsletter. We'll be sure to keep you posted on our latest products and great deals?

I didn't get anything back after registering my email-neither did my brother who wanted the phone. His local Radio Shack wouldn't honor the one he printed out and he wanted the phone more than he wanted to spend the day running around to the six other one's in the area to try and save $10. So, he bought it at $149. They didn't push the activation as long as he bought a $25 dollar card which he wanted anyway.

AFAIK, $149 was the best price of the day, new, from a known source.

Buying an AIRTIME at the time of purchase is NOT REQUIRED.....its a way for Radio Shack to boost their sales.

the clerk's statement of personal information required to fight anti-terrorism is partially correct.

Policies vary from store to store, but generally, if you buy MORE THAN TWO prepaid cell phones AT ONE TIME(or if you make MORE THAN TWO *SEPERATE* purchases in SEVERAL CONSECUTIVE DAYS----AND the clerk recognizes you doing this), you MIGHT be asked for your personal information and asked for your intentional use of these phones.
All of this stemmed from 911 and the Patriot Act.

likewise, Wal-Mart will only let you buy TWO prepaid cell phones (which doesn't mean you can't go to another store and buy more.......unless they're requesting ID)...

Use Foursquare and check in at RadioShack and get an addional 20% discount. Show the clerk the phone with the check-in deal and they must honor it. I bought my Optimus V on sale for $149.99 and they took an additional $30 off for final price of $119.99!

Only annoyance was them forcing me to activate in-store and hassling me to buy insurance, extra battery, blah blah I said "NO, JUST THE PHONE" but I did buy $25 airtime card just to get the phone turned on. I didn't want to port my existing number immediately, I want to make sure Sprint/Virgin Mobile coverage is solid where I live and work plus all points between. I figured $120 was a low risk for a nice phone!
