Root Alternatives to Leedroid (w/ Sense)

just to check something
are you changing the freq in set cpu? some phones dont like running any higher than 1113 so if you have it at 1152 or higher then it can cause instability and boot loops

The device doesn't stay on long enough for me to open most apps, so I haven't changed any CPU settings.

I was just looking at the Insertcoin ROM on XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940) and it mentions this as a requirement:

A2SD CM7 HBOOT

I'm not familiar with this - what is it and how do I get it (if I don't have it)?

Previously, I've used Unrevoked to root the device and install Clockwork as the bootloader (I think it's the bootloader, isn't it?). I presume this is a bootloader it's requiring?

On the ROM's download page (http://www.baadnwz.eu/), it also mentions two versions to choose from: A2SD or CM7 - what's the difference?

a2sd uses an ext partition on your SD card (possibly much like leddroid version you have?)

Clockworkmod is recovery.

CM7 is a hboot partition table that changes the size allocated to the rom and apps, without partitioning SD card. You need to be S-off for that.

Did you partition your SD card for leedroid?

Yeh, I've got the SD card set up for A2SD, with an Ext3 partition etc.

So... Seeing as I don't want to do S-off just yet (it sounds too dangerous for my liking!), does it look as if I should choose the A2SD version of Insertcoin? Or does that still require CM7?

You want the a2sd version that uses a standard hboot

Thanks.

After a bit more investigation and experimenting, it seems that it's not Leedroid that's causing the problem, but maybe something within the device itself.

Even after the RUU was used to restore the device, it's been randomly rebooting :/

Looks like I might have to return it to HTC

Still, thanks for the advice - I'd like to try an alternative to Leedroid, as I was running an earlier version previously and didn't much like it.

Might be worth changing the radio? I know that sounds random but anything is worth giving a go. I had problems with SMS app force closing on me every now and again for past year or so. I couldnt for the life of me figure out what the problem was. I changed roms froyo/GB versions and kernels nothing worked! But once I changed the radio it stopped completely...

Just wondering what those of you who like sense think of the 2.1 ROMs. I really am not a fan of AOSP and the GB version of Leedroid, while good, doesn't have all the fanciness of the 2.1 ROMs.

I might flash one over the weekend and I am wondering which ones are the stablest. Also, is there a good FAQ on boot tables, I'm not quite sure what they are.

Thanks to all

Well, it's gone back to HTC now. I'm not overly keen on messing about with the radio. Recovery and ROMs I can cope with - S-off and radio aren't really things I want to get my hands dirty with yet.

i take it you were getting this still with other roms and standard rom then?

it did look like a typical hardware fault.

I hadn't tried other ROMs, but when I applied the RUU, the same was happening.

I also wondered if it was something to do Clockwork, but again, with the RUU applied it still behaved the same.
