Help Hope I made the right choice with this phone.

I just got the Revo yesterday because my Droid died. It was either the Revo or the Charge and I chose the Revo because it was cheaper, had 16gb internal, and consistently blew the Charge away on Quadrant benchmark scores. I know part of my uncomfortableness with the phone is that I am just used to the Droid and need time to adjust to things like different button and lock-screen layouts. But for those considering it, here are my biggest issues so far:

• No camera button. I am used to just holding down the camera button to launch the camera, half-press the button to focus/flash to make sure I've got the picture I want, and click to shoot.
• Sometimes there is up to a 3 second lag between pushing the power button and the lock-screen coming up. Also, the power button is on the very top, and the custom lock-screen requires you to swipe up from the very bottom.
• Bloatware! Wow, this phone is full of bloatware, seriously. The worst of all being Bing. I seriously hope someone comes up with a way for me to assign Google search to the search button. That was one of my most used features on the Droid.
• Touchscreen issues. The screen does not seem as responsive or intuitive as I'd expect. The default scroll rate takes to long to stop scrolling, and if you click on something while it's scrolling, it doesn't register. This is turning out to be really hard for me to adjust to.
• Non of the camera LED flashlight apps seem to work, probably just a matter of time.
• Camera seems no more impressive than the Moto Droid.
• USB cover pointless and annoying. I plug my phone in alot and opening the USB cover and having it dangle is just pointless in my opinion.
• Speaker doesn't seem to be very loud. It's loud enough and probably as loud as the Droid, I just figured it would be bigger and better like everything else.

That being said, I really do like the phone so far. LTE is crazy fast (consistently over 11 Mbps down), the screen is huge, front-facing camera is cool, CPU is fast, etc. These are just things that have stuck out to me so far, I'm still pretty sure I made the right choice over the Charge.

Just ordered mine yesterday, so I'm waiting right now. But its interesting to me how the phone you are upgrading from affects your perspective on your new phone.

For example, I'm upgrading from a Dinc, so I'm used to no camera button (although, I'm with you in that I prefer them!). I don't use my current speaker for calls or anything really, so another non-issue for me.

The camera from my in-store testing seemed about as good as the one on my Dinc. Only time will tell.

I also agree with you on the USB door being stupid, and the LED flashlight issue, since like you I frequently have the phone plugged in at work. The flashlight apps come in handy for IT work as well!

Unfortunately all the new VZW phones have tons of bloatware, so you can't avoid it.

I'll get back to you on the screen responsivness when my new phone arrives, but I didn't notice any problem in-store.

Hopefully, these are not deal breakers for you but are only adjusting pains. There is nothing more depressing than getting excited about a new phone and then finding it fall flat when you get it. Trust me, I had a Storm 1!

Yeah, I think a lot of it is that I had my Droid for almost two years and had spent that time finding the right ROM and tweaking it to be perfect. If I came from a "dumb" phone like I did with my Droid, I probably wouldn't notice several of the things I pointed out. I just can't wait till we get ROMs for this thing!

The Rev seems polar on people's perspective of the touch response. I agree with the OP and some reviews have picked up on it as well, but others report it is too sensitive. Seems there is no middle ground (maybe THAT is the problem?)

All moot though, since what matters most is the person buying it (if happy- all is good).

my first actual smart phone was a droid eris, which turned out to be a great phone, but the first few months with it I did not like it. I cannot say the same about the Rev. I really like, even stock with bloatware.

I did root, and froze the bloat apps. though.

I visited different local VZW store during weekend to get more hands-on with Revo along with other phones. I really don't get a few others complaining on touch screen. It's super smooth and fluid again to the point of questioning "what more can be asked for touch screen?". Even compared to dual core DX2, it's was very good. DX2 was moving fast indeed, but overall feel of touch on UI was a little rough with some lags happening occasionally. Zoom, scrolling on browser was also pretty smooth on Revolution. DX2 felt slightly choppier on browsing than Revo. Revo crushes Charge on browsing smoothness in stock form. Charge needs setting tweak or help from Launcher Pro, Dolphin HD to be smooth, but Revo doesn't need such helps.

Root was the first thing I did so I could restore with TB, but what is the benefit or freezing? I just hid the stock apps from LauncherPro; does freezing hide them from other launchers without the option or is there another benefit?

Unless you waited ~2 seconds for it to stop scrolling (or flicked it all the way to the bottom so it stopped), it won't register the click, it just stops the scrolling. The fact the it takes so long to stop scrolling is actually nice, if it would let me click before it's done scrolling.

OK, I get what you are saying. But you should be able to stop scrolling screen with finger then touch again to go into setting you want. I think most phones are this way these days. I don't want to hit incorrectly while screen is scrolling.

Overall I like the specs on this phone, except for 2 things...

2. No Gorilla Glass - For me, this is the biggest problem. I refuse to use a touchscreen smartphone that doesn't have a Gorilla Glass screen. I've used and scratched many devices over the years. Not having to worry about scratches when wiping a screen is awesome and not something I would overlook.

Where did you get it has no Gorilla glass? I'm 99% certain that it has Gorilla glass. Also even gorilla glass doesn't guarantee your screen won't be scratched at all.

very good point. i upgraded from a bb tour. as much as i came to hate the tour, i do miss some things (ie, notification-specific volume control)....but all-in-all, i'm very pleased with the rev.

I'm hoping it has Gorilla Glass. Everything uses it nowadays, to decide not to use it would just be stupid on LG's part and a deal-breaker for many of us. Regular glass is stupid.

Freezing them hides them from the system completely. Like they are not even there. For instance when I press the search soft button nothing happens. No program executes which is just skippy for me. Neither ADWEX or LauncherPRO can see the frozen apps. Like the don't exist.

I have tested several devices as well and notice no speed difference with the DX2 or the Rev in regards to browsing, but the Rev seems choppy in the UI. One place the DX2 blows the Rev away is if you turn Flash to active, the DX2 is a lot faster.... Not really practical though..... Not to mention some Flash videos can trigger a heat spike with the DX2.....

I have not tested the Rev yet with higher def Flash videos. I will test that today. I am wondering if the metal cover makes the DX2 seem warmer and the plastic of other devices makes them seem not as warm. I will install a CPU Temp app and test

Will also test touch response again.

It's unfair to compare the DX2 to the Revo in terms of UI. We knew the DX2 would be the fastest phone in terms of getting around Android; you can't compete with dual-core. I think the Revo has the best UI experience of the three LTE phones though. Sense does absolutely nothing for me, the Charge is a train wreck (there was no Voodoo when I had it though so I wouldn't know how that makes it perform), but the Revo is the closest to a stock experience you'll get of the LTE trio. It's got an unlocked bootloader. As I just said in another thread, it's the current "unofficial dev phone" that should be supplanting the Droid 1 in terms of ease of use and low risk of bricking, as long as we get a good flashing utility like Moto's RSD Lite and Samsung's Odin.

Shadowdude, do you think this device will receive dev support within the next week? I feel exactly as you about the potential of this device and I know that if the smart minds that dev really wanted to get a recovery for this device they could. It just seems that they are busy with the other LTE phones at the moment...
