How To Helpful hint- magnetic case swiping phone open

Most after market cases use magnets to hold them closed, the downfall to this is they will actually activate the dock modes on your phone while its in your case and end up killing your battery or opening applications, I've discovered an easy fix to this problem, by enabling the security pattern swipeswipe lock screen on your phone it keeps the phone from allowing the magnets to activate it. Go to - settings - location/ security, then enable and set unlock pattern, Hope this helps, it worked for me.

I'm glad you brought this to my attention, I forgot about the common sense factor. BEFORE PUTTING THE PHONE IN THE CASE YOU MUST HIT THE SCREEN SAVER BUTTON ON THE TOP RIGHT OF THE PHONE( the power button) it will stay off in your pocket, I work with mine in my pocket all day without a problem.

Hmm - I'll test with a BB case I have, but when I first got the phone, it was still activating the phone even if I hit the power button - but, then again, I may not have had the security lock feature enabled.

I'll test and see.

Try it again with the swipe pattern enabled and it will work, let me know how you make out, you should be able to use your case now, I haven't had a problem with mine since I figured this out.

Dunno, I keep mine in my pouch face out and the magnets are too far away from the sensors for it to activate. If I turn the phone facing in, only then does it go into dock mode. Only time it ever goes off by accident is when I'm taking the phone out of the holster, and that's only sometimes.

Makes sense, one thing I noticed is without the security swipe pattern activated the phone will actually swipe itself open because sliding it in/out of the case is the same motion needed to swipe the arrow open.

Ive heard magnetic flap cases werent good for the phone as it messes up the compass?? im a newbie but thats the last thing i heard

If it messed up anything, I doubt Verizon would sell official magnetic docks that activated these special dock modes.

And considering compasses are basically just magnetized pieces of iron, can you really mess them up? Maybe digital compasses work differently, but it's the same concept.

The only things magnets really mess with is magnetic media, such as floppy disks and hard drives *if you get them close enough*. These devices use flash memory. The only danger magnets pose is making you run out of battery because it'll keep activating dock mode and therefore turning on the screen.
