Argentine newbie here :)

I have bought my X8 only 2 hours ago and I'm already looking for a way to mod it :p
I've read the important threads and the FAQ thread, but still have doubts.

What I would like to do with the phone is just the basics: open xvid, pdfs, multitouch and boost the speed a little bit without overclocking (maybe a bash shell in the future... just kidding)

My baseband is xxxx006 and the model E15a.
It has installed Android 2.1 by default kernel version 2.6.29 compilation #2.0.1.A.0.47

I read that I need the xxxx15 baseband to install the latest Froyo compilation. Is there any way to change the baseband? (I don't even know what a baseband is) Do you know if this will be an issue for all further droid versions like gingerbread?

What's your recomendation? Should I stick to 2.1 version and just install app2SD, jit, rockplayer, mutitouch drivers, etc or should I go for a 2.2 modded version?

One last thing. The phone is blocked for my carrier... is this going to be a problem for rooting and that kind of stuff?

Thanks for your help!

edit:
i have 2.1-update1 firmware version

Hi,

You should install LauncherPro and have a feel of the android software before you start to do the serious stuff. Eclair 2.1.1. with LauncherPro is actually not too bad.

cheers ;)

Well you were right... I don't need fancy themes after all, and eclair is fast enough for me.

The only aspect i'm not happy with is not having multitouch :S
is there any way to enable multitouch with eclair?

Hi,

Xperia X8 has a single touch screen.
You will have to Root and install custom ROM to enable "1 finger pinch zoom" for the X8.

Note that the "1 finger pinch zoom" does not work for all apps.

cheers :)

u-_-

after downloading understanding and using superoneclick, root explorer, flashtools, xrecovery, changing the baseband and installing a froyo rom I get to use pinch zoom =) not bad for just one afternoon

it's tricky to use! I don't like it :D
