Root Hi I'm new to this rooting thing and I need help

So I'm planning on getting a huawei ascend sometime this week and I want to know how to root and upgrade so can anyone list me step-by-step how to upgrade a unmodified phone (unrooted phone) to the latest firmware 2.3 (gingerbread), pros and cons and so on.

You don't need to write a tutorial on this thread, I just wanna know what I need to do or maybe link me up in an orderly way - I already saw the tutorials on rooting, not sure if I need to do something before that and what to do after that and all that jazz

There are several posts about rooting your phone and installing cm7, gapps, etc.. If you are on metropcs then you also need metro off as well to make mms work.
Do some reading here and you will learn how to do it all.
When you decide to root your phone be sure to read the tutorials several times to be sure you understand all the steps. It is a very easy process once you read through it. There are you tube videos as well.

hi and welcome to androids forum, and i good start is just a click away, but i highly suggest look here: http://androidforums.com/ascend-all-things-root/286905-huawei-ascend-all-things-root-guide.html and get familiar with things before jumping right into flashing. Also what carrier are you with metro or cricket?

This is for metro users...

reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself.

Force Update Method
(Recommendation : When the OS of handsets could not start up successfully)
Download the Following Package:
Cricket Stock Recovery Package

1) Copy "dload" folder to SD card
2) Switch off the handset ,then press "Volume Control Upper Key +End Key+ Power Key"
3) Showing successful
4) Remove battery one second ,then power on ,waiting till the os start up

Normal Update Method​

Download the Following Package:
Cricket Stock Recovery Package

1) Copy "dload" folder to SD card
2) Settings--SD card & Phone storage--Software Upgrade

Just a quick question

Is is necessary to install all those files from Ultimate guide like
- Icarus1.1
- setting up a2sd (don't know what this is)
- Cyanogenmod6 port (difference between w/adw and w/zeam (what are those?)
- Cyanogenmod7 port

no, but what carrier you with, cause you dont want to flash the wrong thing, but i suggest cm6 for starters very easy to do, but first download rom manager from market and it will install cwm recovery for you, and once that is finish scroll down to cm6 and follow the directions, dont skip over nothing, but the file you download have to be the same as your carrier.

do this first.

INSTALLING CLOCKWORKMOD (CWM)

Download the cwm.zip---------> CWM Recovery.zip (Thanks to Jazzette for this from her icarus 1.1 guide)

make sure usb debugging is turned on (menu button, settings, applications, development, usb debugging)

boot your phone into debug mode (fastboot) press, in order, VOLUME ROCKER DOWN+END (HANG UP)+ POWER. your phone will stay at the huawei screen. attach to pc using usb cord.

open the cwm.zip and extract the files
open the cwm folder
open the following files (you may see the dos box open briefly, this shows it worked all file are labeled according to os, choose for your os)

adb
fastboot
install recovery

unplug your phone from the pc and remove the battery for ten seconds.

boot to cwm VOLUME ROCKER UP+CALL BUTTON+POWER

you should see a black screen with green text. you now have cwm.



download these 2 files and Dont Unzip The File and put them on the main area of the sdcard.
