correct me if I am wrong but I believe there is a thread on how to get their 3g...just no 4g as they use lte vs wimax

again ..I could be completely wrong..I have only briefly skimmed the metro threads

UNFORTUNATLY FOR ME :( i have to say your wrong...the 4G statement was dead on acurate..but as far as 3G goes,no go..believe me,ive seen this topic alot on the forums and i never got anything other than you cant do it (forgot why they said you cant but..unfortunatly for us metro users,no 3G for us.... but i use wifi 95% of the time anyways!:D

if you guys can please answer some questions about flashing my evo over to metro pcs that would be awesome...

when there is a newer software update available (2.4 or higher or whatever) like the android 2.3 will i still be able to download it?

what will be different as far as what i will lose from sprint.. metro evo vs sprint evo?

if i ever had to repair like a screen or somethin on the evo, who fixes that or how the insurance goes that i had on sprint?

thanks guys

so basically this is the whole rundown..once you flash your evo over to sprint, your never gonna be tied to sprint ever again, until you go back to them (if you choose to,of coarse).that means NO INSURANCE..

first you have to find someone who can add your ESN to metro's database (this is so your phone can be activated on metro's network) with houdini.this is a program that fully programs your phone to metropcs..and regular metro pcs stored usually dont do it either.so search craigslist or other cell phone shops in your area.

once you have your phone programed with talk and text, you can either pay extra to have them do MMS and DATA or you can program DATA/MMS yourself using THIS VERY EASY GUIDE,which i personally used many times on mine and other peoples metro flashed evos.

as far as updates go,metro doesnt push updates out,so your only option is flashing a new rom on your phone (not all ROMS will work for your phone either,BUT MOST WILL).its easy to flash ROMs also, theres tons out there.whenever theres an update, dev's will take that update and cook it into a ROM for us.then we just flash the ROM and theres the update :)

replaceing a broken screen is actually pretty easy, you can DIY,or pay someone like 100 to fix it (thats what i did once already).and also im on the 45 dollar plan with ALL SERVICES WORKING.GPS,WEB,MMS,TALK and TEXT.
only shitty part is,we get 2G speed on metro.no 3G :( abut you only pay 45 a month :)
hope this helps!!

My ROM and Kernel of choice (thanks OCNBRZE for the kernel suggestion) is:
CM7 7.0.3.1 Stable and the latest Tiamat Kernel.(must flash data/mms .zip when using this combo)also this KERNEL is for AOSP ROM's ONLY!

I will add more to this thread as i find more useful things to share!:D

Yes really, thank you. I gave my Samsung Moment to my friend for MetroPCS and was disappointed that they couldn't get it to work properly there. This will really come in handy if I give my Evo away too.

If you go back a couple of days worth of threads, there was one where a user was having issues flashing a new rom and was using a different carrier. He said that between the changing roms, there are a couple of files to flash as well (one for data and one for texts or something like that). I'm pretty sure he posted a link to XDA where it talked about the switching process.

:) That is (this is?) the thread I was referring to. Well done good sir.

also remember, this programming guide is ONLY for phones that have talk and text with metro already..this will not convert your phone to metro from another user..only houdini can add an esn and activate talk and text..this guide is simply for programming data and mms..lol :)
