I didn't see a thread specific to [easily] rooting the official OTA Gingerbread OS so I thought I'd start one (Moderators if there is one then please merge, delete or otherwise disposition as you see fit).
Its my understanding that Verizon's GB OTA cannot be rooted at this time (June 1st), but I'm hoping it will come soon (1-click similar to Z4?) and I wanted to create a thread where it could easily be found when created.
I'm currently on rooted Froyo 2.2.1 and happy with my phone in its current configuration but also looking forward to seeing what improvements a rooted Froyo might bring. I really like the 1-click rooting solution ala Z4, but if one isn't coming sometime soon I may venture into the 2-part download for the rooted OTA version, which is the only way to have a rooted version of the OTA at this time - see Link to .596 OTA (Rooted/Odexed/Deodexed/Etc) for more info on going this route. I'm personally going to wait a bit to see what happens - I'm a little put off by the complaints of problems I've read about in some of the other threads relating to GB issues here. As I said I'm extremely happy with my current setup and don't want to screw up my phone.
Hopefully we'll see something developed soon...
