Cab you still tether free with it if you're rooted and is it rooted already?

There is an official version of Gingerbread out. You can download it through: setting/about phone and click on system-updates. Apparently, you can't get it directly if you're rooted. So you may have to SBF back to stock Froyo to receive it, but I have heard allot tossed about as to chat is needed for it to take. Check out the threads here:

There's plenty of folks who are not only hellpful, but even know what they're doing!

As for the tethering, I've never bothered, but the consensus seems to be that the official update will stop any tethering except what plans Verizon will sell you. Good luck!

Apparently, you can't get it directly if you're rooted.

Yes you can. It will just fail if you have removed, renamed, or frozen any of the bloatware. You will also lose root and will not be able to get it back.
