lg revolution vs droid charge

I'm planning to update my Droid today. I'm leaning toward the LG revolution because of its speed, price and Netflix support. However I hear the call quality isn't the best and I use it a lot for business and conference calls. I like the screen on the charge but am worried

about samsungs lack of updates and the low ram. What should I get?

I disagree with call quality. I switched from the Thunderbolt last night (laughable call quality), and the call quality is awesome on the Revo. I have it half way up and it's so loud I can almost use it as a speaker phone. Calls come through crystal clear, and those I call can hear me clearer as well. I love it.

+1. LG phones traditionally had good call quality, signal reception. I think they are closely second to Motorola in this regard.

I went up to a Verizon store last Sunday expecting to try out the Charge and decide on that based on the reviews but the Revolution really seemed to be a better phone to me. The UI seemed much smoother from the homescreen transitions to the browser and I actually liked the screen almost as much as the charge (if the Charge's screen is a 10 I'd give the Revolution an 8). I also liked the LG's UI more than what was on the Charge and the build quality and overall shape of the phone felt much nicer to me as well. I was able to download Google maps, navigator, etc... to replace Bing right in the store so that pretty much sold me on the phone, my only concern is battery life but I'm coming from an iPhone 3g that won't last more than about 5 hours anymore if I'm actually using it so I feel like I'll be taking a step up no matter what the batter life is based on user reviews. Ordered it from Amazon Monday, $149 - $92 on a gift card got me the phone for ~$60, and it's on the UPS truck for delivery right now. Pretty excited to finally take the plunge on Android.

I have to agree with the call quality. Having the Storm I, II, OG Droid and Droid 2, the LG Revolution beats them all in call quality.

I have to say the swiping UP to unlock the phone is annoying on a 4.3" screen. It's 50/50 if I get it on the first try. Other than that, it's a solid phone.

Just waiting on root with new mods that get rid of all the MS crapware (BING etc). When that's done...it'll be a killer phone!

Excited for you. Once you get the hang of rooting, new ROM's, theming and the good peeps in this forum, you will ask yourself how and why you held on to your previous phone for so long. The stuff I listed above is what makes Android so much fun, not the apps (even though there are thousands). It's like getting a new phone every month, week or day if you want.

My suggestion is to download WidgetLocker. It will allow you to change your lockscreen to pretty much whatever you want.

Tbolt has opposite unlock pattern swiping down on lower side of screen. To me that's more annoying and uncomfortable than swiping up from bottom on Revo screen.

Yeah, I find the Sense unlock screen to be terrible. The 3.0 screen is kinda useful though. Frankly, I don't understand the obsession with useless locks screens. These phones don't really even butt-dial. Either put some useful controls on the lockscreen or do away with it entirely.

On a side note, my favorite lockscreen setup ever has been in CM7. I hide the default rotary lock and instead, I get a blank screen. I can then either unlock the phone with the menu key or draw gestures (I use a g for GMail, b for browser, v for Google Voice, and so on) to go into that specific app or perform any shortcut action. THAT is the ideal lockscreen because it's hard to accidentally do anything to it but it's very intuitive to use.

I did a comparison from the Verizon store and my wife said the LG sounded better than the charge. I tried two different Charge phones and both sounded similar. The speakerphone on the LG is disappointing - not much volume and tinny sounding. Other than that, I'm liking it.

Both phone has pros and cons. Charge has better screen, camera and battery life. Revolution has faster UI, browser, larger internal storage, VoLTE, more stable data connection.
Overall I think Revo is a little better phone. Even as 3G phone, it's great device and I would use 4G LTE only when needed like movies, large downloads. There is similar thread as this over at Charge forum and the way they trash Revo is just incredible.

I'm trying to decide which LTE phone to get as well. I was at the VZW store last night playing with the phones and the Revo took forever to search online compared to DC and TB. Youtube was also way faster on DC (not to mention the screen quality was better on the DC). Was this just demo phone related or do you guys have slow and choppy youtube playback and web download speeds? I really like the bluetooth stereo capabilities of the Revo better but am now very leary of it due to the demo performance.

I have had Revolution for two weeks now and call quality is great and I get full signal as I did on all my LG phones. I had Samsung Fascinate for 6 months and calls were good but signal was always weak. I swore never to get another Samsung as they took forever to get new Froyo OS update and now everyone is having problems with the phone. So my opinion is go Revolution

My Revolution works good on Youtube but the screen quality is better on DC just like my old Fascinate but I dont mind because I like to view vids and pics on TV or computer where if you record vids in high def they are fantastic on both. Samsung with their super amoled screen is best when viewing on phone

I have had my Revo for about a month and I love it. I had the Charge for a week but returned it. I love the screen of the Charge and that is why I took it over the Rev... but the Charge is very laggy. I am happy with the Revo... I think you will be too. I think we all hoped the Mythological Bionic would have been our phone to chose from... but then they wouldn't have been able to sell the LG, X2 and Charge... and when they cut the unlimited plans they will need something strong to keep us coming. For now Revo is working wonderfully for me, and the picture is almost just as Awesome as the cartoony picture quality of the Charge.

I have the Droid Charge and my wife have the LG revolution...
Charge have better screen, camera and battery life...(hands down)....
The rest of the phone is almost equal....
The reason we got the rev....Netflix and $50 cheaper than DC. By the way, there is NO way anyone in the DC forum can figure out how to get netflix on their phone.

since there 2 phones are so new, we didn't get 2 identical phones because we didn;t want to end up owning 2 junk phones if we happen to pick the wrong phone.

Had the Droid Charge for two weeks got the LG Revo, like it at first, but then after comparing 4G/LTE speeds... The Droid Charge consistently smoked the LG Revo in Seattle and San Diego where I spend a lot of time. I usually get 28MB down on the Charge and 8-10-12MB on the LG Revo. In 3G, the Droid Charge smoked all three LTE phones right there in the VZW store side by side. I was getting TB like battery life out of the LG Revo, about 6 hours. The camera was OK on the LG Revo, but definitely better on the Charge, the shutter speed to take next picture was better on the LG Revo. Close ups under low light the LG Revo was a tad better too.

The Display, Battery Life, Camera, Speed, lightness (So extended battery feels like a regular phone weight), the fact that an extended battery did not make the phone look like a humpback whale, and not having an annoying muting problem I had with the LG Revo (Discussed in my comparison thread weeks ago) drove me back into the arms of the Droid Charge, without looking back.

The LG Revo was a little snappier out of the box, but comparing the file systems I know why. In the end with either voodoo file system change or Gingerbread, the Droid Charge will be the single processor version of the baddest phone on the planet right now with 4G/LTE... The Samsung Galaxy S II. Since I can't have that in 4G and right now unlimited, the Droid Charge IMO is the best 4G/LTE phone in the VZW lineup.

this is possible to the(your) droid Charge comes with class2 (2x speed) micro SD card. Does the LG rev. comes with a faster class?

I thought abt that to but decided to wait. coming from and very old phones (Motorola Razr and my wife's "Phone with an antenna" Nokia), there are mure than enough wow factors for us a few months... I still cannot get over the fact that the 4G-LTE is faster than my home (Comcast) internet!
and all those apps.....red laser, mapquest, gas buddy, ....etc....
and That camera, is on par with my 4 yrs old Nikon.... and better video resolution.....

These Android phone are just awesome.... I wonder how is these Iphone die hard feels that there are still stucked on 3G(verizon) and 3G+HSPA(with ATT). (download speed of 1.5 Mbps vs 8-12 Mbps (4G-LTE).
It doesn't appear Iphone5 going to be 4G-LTE too.

28 Mbps download speed??? wow... what city is this? and is it consistently getting that speed? I can only get 9+ Mbps download and 4-8 Mbps Upload.

I get those speeds pretty consistently in Seattle and San Diego, I use speakeasy/speedtest website and the Speedtest.net app which both use Ookla net metrics. But they are usually pretty close each time, I vary the servers just to see the results. Speedtest.net allows more granularity when it comes to specific servers, like in San Diego, I can select Chula Vista vice San Diego Downtown, etc. The Browser speedtest only allows major cities and I am sure it directs you to the least bogged down server to run the test. I will post my speedtest again later, look at some of my earlier photo posts, there are some screenshots out there already. I have posted mainly on this forum and the DC forum.

I am so jealous! Only 8-9 Mbps here in Suburban Chicago. Maybe it's all th epolitical "Hot wind" from the Windy city is slowing everything down!!!!
