Help My desire has a weird issue

I got my HTC Desire secondhand from a reputable secondhand shop last friday and almost daily when the battery gets to around 65-75% the screen stays black and still on when I press the power/hold switch.

My Desire is one with the SLCD and following software details:

Android 2.2
Baseband 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Software version 2.29.405.5
HBoot 0.93.0001
Radio 5.11.05.27

The phone was never branded or locked, nor has it been rooted.

Last night when I was charging I was listening to music and playing Angry Birds whilst connected to a 3rd party USB charger (phone reported it as charging via USB) my SD card kept going to SD Card mounted as Read-Only and a message saying that the supplied charger wasn't providing enough current for the use and suggested to connect to a AC adapter, as the battery had gone from 8% to 3% whilst on a 3rd party charger. So I changed to my wifes HTC charger and it now reported it as AC Charger instead of USB Charger and the SD card error also stopped.

Please could someone advise me on what might be going on with my phone and whether reflashing it might help and if so what software versions are compatible with SLCD

Not sure about the screen-blanking thing, maybe a factory reset is in order?

But as for the rest, it seems fairly normal. If the phone is charging by USB, then the default is for it to mount the SD as mass-storage on the PC, so it becomes read-only to the phone. The lower current supplied by the USB charging may not be sufficient if you're doing something processor intensive.
Charging on AC means the SD will not be made read-only because there's no PC attached, and it's supplying a higher current so is enough for you to continue playing and still charge the phone.

Thanks for reply, my problem with the SD card now doesn't just happen when on charge but I think the Desire has a hardware issue as it does it when not on charge for example I go to view my videos or pictures and it kicks the card to Mounted as ReadOnly so I will be returning the phone today from where I got it.

BTW it is good to see another forum member from Southampton I got my Desire from the Pawnbrokers in the Marlands

I think it been sorted day 2 and my battery down to 47% in 13.5 hours without black screening on me, recorded some HD video and taken pictures and transferred files via bluetooth and SD card is still working great.

So I have pointed the issue down to the 2.29.405.5 software that was already on the phone when I got it before downgrading to 2.29.405.2. So I am thinking if after a few more days of keeping my eye on the 2 old faults whether to go back up to 2.29.405.5 and whether to do it as a OTA (4.82Mb) or RUU (168Mb) as I have downloaded the RUU from shipped-roms where I got the 2.29.405.2 RUU from
