what i will miss from SGS2

Widgets :(
faster internet :(

only what i feel

thanks

Did you actually 'try' to get better battery life from your gs2? As well as updating it to fix other issues?

I must admit the battery was an issue for me when I first got it but I now keep data network off and gas off (unless I need them) and now I still have 50% left at the end of the day. Yes the appstore is better in my opinion but the iphone was my first smart phone and I'll get used to the .

The iphone are a lot more restrictive, you can customize the androids a lot.
I'd stick with the galaxy if I were you.

The iPhone is nice and simple. Most things it does straight out of the box. Other things you are not allowed to do. "Simples", as the Meercat says.

Can I have the SGS2 you don't want, please?)

I like FLAC and Flash and porno-apps (did I just say that...), hell there's probably an app to buy cocaine - that would attract some iPhone "users" I've met! ;o) Joke. I was joking.

That's not going to hold up in court.

1. my phone has been off the charger and using battery for... 1d 21h 35m 26s
i keep data on, i keep gps on... i've even used bluetooth for quite a bit. screen brightness i usually keep at 50%. you have to be hammering away on this phone to get "bad" battery life because i've texted a crap ton, made a few calls, used foursquare, twitter, checking weather, updating. oh yeah, and battery is currently sitting at 24% remaining

2. freeze and stop almost every day??? are you kidding me!???? if this is really true, you have a faulty handset. my phone hasn't been restarted for over 35hrs now and i've had no freezes/slow downs/stops. every now and then i just clear the RAM

3. screen feels big for you because you're used to that tiny 3.5" screen bud. coming from an Evo, the phone feels a lot better in the hand.

this phone is a true iPhone killer. will be interesting to see what Apple does with their iPhone 5. but one thing is for sure, they NEED to jump to a 4" screen.

yeah man, or it's possible something installed is eating into it. almost at 48 hrs with 20% remaining! that is simply stellar for a smartphone, esp since i haven't been treating it like my Evo where i turned crap off and tried to use it as little as possible.

don't come the raw prawn with me
wut?

Anyway i tried something and it makes the battery better a little
i used to have Launcher Pro installed
and i removed it now
seems that this app was killing the battery
now the battery is Doing better but still not like the iphone ... as one if the reply stated its not fair to coompare 4.3" to 3.4 i totaly agree
and also hard to compare 1 year old mobile with 1 just have been introduced

Lol heck no I only wish it had a 4.5" screen.

If it had a 4.5 it would be almost perfect.

I think if you treasure battery life, iPhone will be king. Apple prides themselves on battery life and also tightly controls the hardware and the software to enable that. The best you can hope for from Android is "good enough" not ever "great" battery life imo. For me Android's advantages overcome it's disadvantages, it's a tradeoff you must decide for yourself. Apple makes a phone for the non tech savvy masses and for women. Battery life is important to those groups.

Hi Sulaiman, Welcome to AndroidForums. Your title to your first thread on here gave many of a members a bad impression of you. I've changed the title to indicate that you're having issues with your GS2. From your other posts, it does seem like you want to use your GS2 but you aren't because of the battery life.

Did you actually 'try' to get better battery life from your gs2? As well as updating it to fix other issues?
+1 You can post us your battery history of what's using the most of your battery. If touchwiz support this, you can dial in *#*#4636#*#* on your phone and it will take you to your system history information. If you go to 'Battery history', it will have a break down of your battery usage by various breakdowns. One that I find very helpful is 'Partial wake usage'. This shows all of the apps that is causing your phone to not 'sleep' when it is not being used (screen is off). See how long it is for various app and how much battery % is being used. See if any apps are coded improperly and uninstall it.

What apps do you have sync and how often? What do you have turned constantly on? Wifi/BT/GPS etc.

Have you done a factory reset on your phone before? I suggest that you use your phone with just as it is out of the box. No apps download with your 'regular' usage. See how the battery life is. If you're getting great life, that would mean that some apps you downloaded might be causing it.

That's good to hear, though when I used LP, it did not drain my battery substantially. No more than 8% of total battery life.

If all else fail, ask your carrier for another GS2 since yours might be deffective.

Everyone, please keep the conversation on topic. This thread is not an Android vs iOS debate. I have unapproved the posts for now and will move the posts into its own thread.

If you have anything to add for the OP, please do so, it does seem like the OP is trying to like his/her GS2 from their posts in the thread. Our community here is based on helping each other to understand Android and trouble shooot any problems they might have. Please keep that in mind with your future posts. We all had issues with our phones at one point or another and it can get very frustrating. It's even worst when you post and you get flammed for it.

Best of Luck Sulaiman on getting your GS2 to work for you.

Cheers,
Roze

What apps do you have sync and how often? What do you have turned constantly on? Wifi/BT/GPS etc.

gmail is set to sync
Samsung mail also sync's once a day (i like the widget :D)
twitter is not set to update
weather updates as often as possible (i think it's every 4hrs or something)
and google voice syncs

wifi isn't constantly on. i only turn it on when i'm at the house. BT is also on only when at the house. gps is always on. i disable sound (no vibration even) when at work. data/syncing is always on. i drop my display brightness all the way down sometimes while at work as well.

these are all just settings that work for me. but before my phone finally told me to plug it in at 15%, i had gone over 2days and 2hrs man. i would've been happy with 1.5 days. but 2 days  lol just insane for a smartphone. with the same settings on my Evo, i was lucky to get a little over 24hrs and it was rooted with kernels/ROMs that were specifically for saving battery life.

if anyone is wondering why i disable all sound/vibration while at work, it's because i work on a computer all day. so the phone is only used for calls/text for 8hrs. now i bet you're saying "well no wonder you get so much out of it"... not so fast haha. i use something called SMS popup which turns my phone screen on and displays part of the message. this is set to timeout, or cut the display back off, after 1min. so there are lots of times i'm away from my desk where the display is just on for a minute.

even further... because it's a new gadget and i'm still in "play" mode, i turn it on a lot and just mess around... like checking for app updates, messing with twitter, just looking at the weather, etc. tbh, i just love looking at the screen ahaha :p

when i first got it, i didn't have it hooked up to my network. i was just using wifi. it was being left at home while on and unused. if you wanna know if you have a faulty unit, i recommend doing a similar test. just let it sit at stock factory settings and see how long it lasts after charging it up fully. if it lasts days, you know you're good. if it dies in just one day with no use... there is a serious problem. this also helped with checking for random restarts because you can check your "up time".

Coming to Android def comes with a learning curve. I had a huge one as I've never owned a smartphone before, but once I learned what was going on, I had a better understanding of how to get the most out of my device.

I'm desperately waiting for the SGS2 to come to the States, so I don't yet own it to give you advice from that standpoint. But one thing that has always helped me and others across all Android devices is to keep an eye on what's running.

Go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Running Apps (or Manage Apps). You can see what apps are currently running and how much memory is being consumed. You may find a lot of apps that started on their own (use an app once, it doesn't always turn off, or even just DLing it from the Market might do it). If you're using a widget, you'll probably want to keep them running. But do you really need an app running all the time?

Also might help to turn the brightness of the screen down. It's fun to show off how vivid the screen is, but in reality, it's often not necessary. And the screen is almost always the biggest drain.

I also don't know the rooting status of the SGS2, but if you root your phone, you can both overclock and underclock your phone. There's an app called SetCPU that has a profile you can set to underclock the kernel to much lower when the screen is off, thus saving battery as the phone won't be working so hard. You will need a custom kernel for that.

Imo, and yes I know I dint have a GS2, but there seems there could be a universal rule or two.

1) Widgets are nice, but delete any you don't use.
2) Home screens are also nice, but same as above.
3) If your "launcher" supports it, hide unused apps in app draw.
4) Android is full of things that want "always on internet" but do you?
5) Try turning off Auto Sync 3G & Data at night while you sleep.
6) Turn display brightness down to something sensible, 20-30% is sufficient for me
7) Don't bother installing apps that do something your phone already does (ie battery widgets, etc) unless you absolutely need that stuff.

How do you see battery usage? I just get a stat page with some info.. Nothing with usage

What carrier are you with? Where did you get your phone from and for how much if you don't mind me asking. I don't know if I can wait for an unknown release from sprint. Want this phone badly, but want a warranty (and insurance).
