Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

Well, I can't seem to get Netflix to work over 4G. I'll try it on Wifi when I get a chance.

Anyone else experiencing this? Defiantly don't want to loose my Netflix.

Anyone tested is it working over 3G/Wifi?

Edit - I didn't see this reply when I posted -
I think someone said it, but now Netflix app loads up but doesn't play the actual videos. It tries to and then goes back to Netflix home page.. That being an app specific incompatibility I imagine we'll see updates rolling out soon. I've tweeted HTC, Netflix, and Sprint.

**Btw it's not playing over 3G, 4G, and WiFi.

Thanks hbk129 for posting

Additionally, the "select text feature" is haywire on Dolphin HD web browser. On the stock browser it works fine but on Dolphin HD when you hit select text it selects the very first word on the entire website, even if it's a link at the top of the page regardless of where you held down the screen at. These are the only two browsers I have so I haven't investigated further. That's disappointing but as with Netflix I expect an update to remedy the issue.

It might have been faster to just search the web for this information... ;)
Some of the features that gingerbread is supposed to bring are:
Faster speed.
Better Android battery life
Better application management
An updated user interface (sense will overwrite that)
A new keyboard
Improved cut-and-paste
Easier file management
Better camera management
Near Field Communication (NFC) (EVO won't benefit from it - unless you get a NFC equipped microSD card)
SIP based Internet calling

my brother just did the OTA update and the only aesthetic difference is the gingerbread 3G symbol at the top...are we missing something? hahah he's kind of disappointed...

When I click to check for "HTC software update", it still comes back with:
"System Upgrade 3.70.651.1 (58.11 MB) FOTA update" is available. This is the same result I've had for months.

Based on reviews here, I never downloaded or installed the 3.70x update. Will this prevent availability of an upgrade to Gingerbread now?

I have the same question... I never downloaded that update either. So will I have to update to that before I can update to Gingerbread?

from Sprint Community: 6/3 - HTC EVO Maintenance Release -...

I think many were hoping for some of the Sense 3.0 goodiness.

- SMS are intermittently sent to wrong and seemingly random contact

Have had this happen ... several times. VERY embarassing.

- "Me" instead of "Yo" in SMS thread conversations when set to Spanish

I understand there are a lot of Spanish speaking people using the EVO... kinda funny it's listed second as a "fix".

- Fix for battery discharge issue

Should be good. My battery/indicator has been acting odd at times. We'll see what happens.

- Downloads management- The Downloads application gives the user easy access

Very helpful, actually. Helps to clean up some crap. One thing I don't like is finding random/old/no longer used files when you uninstall an app. Hate that. At least this will pull up a lot (not all) of your downloads. For instance, it's not showing my Gmail Downloaded Attachments.

NETFLIX: BROKEN - Granted, only EVO 2.2 is listed as being supported - NOT 2.3.3. I even uninstalled, shut down (crashed on shut down), removed battery, inserted battery, restarted, installed Netflix, logged in, hit resume, still only plays for a second.

oh yes, forgot to answer that question...and it isn't the only one... you guys are going to find that a few or more of your apps are not ginger ready

Now my Evo displays the Voicemail icon in the info bar. I cannot get the symbol to turn off. I have checked my voice mail, and there are no messages. I powered down, nothing,, I did a battery pull to no avail. Very weird....As for any changes,,,nothing drastic...

Go to Settings > Call > Clear Voicemail Notification to fix this. A few of us ran in to this issue and this is what fixed it.
