Hackers getting brave these days....whatever happen to honor and the hackerway? So i'm reading, hackers in china, recently hacked into googles gmail accounts and 100s of accounts were compromised. Isn't that sppppeciaaal! Not that far back so was our damn sony system compromised. Hackers as well. But luckily it was 100s and not 1000s. Still i'm curious to know, what are googles plans to keep those of us safe from people that are very capable of just flatout breaking into our pots of gold? Afterall, many of us do own androids which are powered by google.......what's your take on this?

Don't know if it affected ya'll but it did me. I beleive mine got hacked. Someone or something tried send spam emails to 10 different contacts that had email addy's attached to their numbers. They were all undeliverable so I assume google blocked them and then it loocked me out the next day and I had to go thru a few steps to get back into my account.

Don't get yourself phished and use a strong password. When one logs into Gmail, one should always be seeing HTTPS and the green security indicator. If not, one is probably on a phishing site.

The Sony hacking was entirely Sony's fault. As it was a simple SQL code injection, which exposed the entire unencrypted database, including unencrypted passwords and credit card numbers. Of course now Sony has become the hacker's favourite target.

TBH I almost feel sorry for Sony these days. How the once mighty have fallen. Playstation network compromised due to basic security blunders. CDs with rootkits. Worse for bloatware on PCs and laptops. Awful 3D TV, as demonstrated to me this week in Beijing. And whatever you do, don't go anywhere near a SonyStyle store.

Who's to say it's the Chinese? Could be Russians, Czechs, anybody. Some kids in suburban Des Moines. Or a Google insider ... or MicroSoft (if you're thinking about motive). There are a million ways to play this, all speculative.

We lack sufficient evidence (any at all, in fact) and are dependent for "information" on a corporate media with its own agenda (that I don't trust).

Yeah, you can't fake an IP address.

Well the phishing website was designed pretty smartly but still it had some irregularities.
Numbers or special characters dont work against keyloggers or phishers.
They only help against rainbow tables based attacks.
Constant vigilance is the only defense .

I was just kidding. He's right it could have been anyone anywhere (anytime?).

I'd like to think it was Morpheus from the Matrix trying to get my attention. In fact, I did see some emails in my spam box offering assorted pills. At the time I thought it was viagra but you never know...

The simplest thing to do is just turn on 2 factor authentication in GMail. It's virtually impossible to break if you use a strong password. If I'm using a computer that has never logged on to my GMail account, I CANNOT get into my account unless I have my phone with me. It's very, very secure. I'm a bit surprised no one here has mentioned it.

It was not actual hacking.It was phishing .Basically the users gave their passwords (with regards) ,to the hackers.A dummy site was created as you can read.They wont be able to break into your gmail account without authentication but they have your password anyway which can be used on some another site ,if by chance you use the same password.
With salted encryption it is very difficult to hack but phishing is as easy as it was before .
