I'm back on iPhone 4

I was excited about the Galaxy S2, the specs are terrific. A couple of things have now made up my mind to get rid, the first only minor.
I'm not just saying these, it's as I could see it.
The screen is nice, but you need to zoom right in for reading text as the pixel density is was off the mark. I could live with that, but I couldn't live wih the build quality.
A super thin phone is great, but as can be seen with iPhone 4, it shouldn't meen it's made out of the thinnest plastic you can imagine.
I got bored with ios, new one out Monday and I'll see what's different. If I still feel the same, I would be leaning towards the htc sensation. It looks nice and looks well built, something I must have with a phone.

Sorry to hear you didn't like the phone. I sold my iPhone 4 after a day of using my SGS2. I was that sold. It seems the longer I have this phone the better it gets. I don't have near the issue with text. Perhaps you had a faulty unit.

Don't mean to be rude, but I think you're mistaking "build quality" and "feel." The build quality is very good. (The back cover is very flimsy yes...but 99% of the time, it's going to be firmly attached to the phone.) It's made of plastic and is very thing giving it a light and sleek "feel". Of course some people hate this feel, as you do, which to be honest is expected because you're used to the heavy glass of the iP4.

Off topic, but it amazes me how pre-iPhone 4, many people were looking for the thinnest and lightest phone. Now the the iPhone does something different, the other phones get slated for not being what the iPhone is. :/

Listen, I love the sgs2 but how could you compare plastic to glass!? Pastic is a cheap and light material while cutting glass is quite expensive. Holding both devices while knowing nothing about them and you would KNOW the i4 is a premium device but not necessarily the sgs2. That's the difference. The fact that apple made the i4 as thin as it is while using the materials they used is nothing short of engineering genius. Thats not to say that it's a better overall device but don't be a fanboy.

SGS2 does have a glass front. Also calling the iP4 design genius is being a bit generous IMHO. The antenna design was FAR from genius. And the signal loss was no myth. I had 4 different iP4's and they all suffered from the same problem.

Regardless, both are premium devices. If Apple made a device that was 5mm thick it would be highly praised as the best device ever. It doesn't matter to some people what the design consists of. They can't see past the brand.

Isn't the SGS2 screen Gorilla Glass?

correct :)

if you're referring to the person above talking about plastics versus glass, i believe they're talking about the mostly glass body of the iP4 and comparing it to the plastic body of the SGS2

people have different preferences though, guys. it's important to remember that.
lots and lots of users come from an iPhone to an Android device hoping to get the same experience. they forget that they're moving to not only a different device, but also a completely different OS. this is where i think most are going wrong.

when you're moving to a new OS, whether it be mobile or desktop, i recommend you make the switch for specific reasons, and major ones. mine was the customizability and openness of Android versus iOS. this is something iOS will probably never have. however, where that may be a big con for me may be a huge pro for someone on the opposing side.

commenting on which is better is all opinion and preference

Of course, it has Gorilla glass. But its back cover is plastic that some folks are complaining.

I noticed that you posted question on Charge and Revo performance on both forum. I have been in very similar boat like you and was just about to pull trigger on Revolution. But I finally see SGSII on the horizon for U.S as I posted on other thread here. So I will wait a little for more info on it, SGSII will surely blow away all the current phones in U.S once and for all. :)

What exactly the price has to to with quality? Having glass back is just a stupid idea. Plastic back on SGS2 is not a problem because it's not what holds this phone. It's just a cover. The OP was talking about his feelings. He did not actually mention any particular problem with plastic cover. Nobody else did. I have not read anyone having any real issue with it except various reviewers mentioning this as a perseptual problem. Well they are wrong. We all saw multiple accounts of iPhone 4 back getting shuttered. Is that a quality design? Not to mention extra weight.

One point about the iP4. It looked damn nice (although seeing pics of the iP5/4s/GSII) I feel the "non-display" bits on the front just make it seem fat and ugly, but that's my opinion)

So the other day my friends dropped his iP4 from no more than 3/4 of a metre or a metre off to the ground. The antenna was cracked and the vibrations went through the metal and were absorbed by the glass. He now has to use sellotape and black marker to make iP4 work/look vaguely decent, and signal's a pretty hit a miss :p

I know LOL. Apple is always touting "thinnest and lightest" and now that thinner and lighter products come along, even in tablets, now their fanboys try to spin it as a bad thing.

It's just like Retina display/PPI, up until the iPhone4 (meaning OG, 3G, 3GS), iPhone was deficient in those areas, yet you literally never even heard the word "PPI" from the media back when Android had the edge in that spec. Then as soon as Apple took the lead people started suddenly acting like it was super important...I predict if/when the rumored 720P Android phones come out, suddenly it will cease to be important again :p

I's is rather annoying because (even though I don't like Apple, as a business) they make good products and they did create a revolution. Firstly, the design is simply how many people Steve Jobs' has got churning out designs. Furthermore, it's easier for Apple because they have one mobile phone. All resources are put into 1 single phone, so clearly going to be the "cream-of-the-crop"

BUT the revolution was back in 2005 - 2006 and maybe up until 2009. They're simply not as revolutionary as they used to be! Android, whilst still very fragmented, and not half as "clean" as iOS, is rapidly catching up and with phones such as the Sensation, Android is pulling in "regular consumers." It's a shame really because Apple are just riding and thriving on the fact that consumers have become so addicted (unknowingly of course) to Apple that they simply don't know what's out there. Literally the other day, I spent about 5 minutes explaining to my Aunt (a typical iPhone user) the concept of a widget! And she was amazed - simply because she'd never seen a widget type thing on a phone.

Another thing, if iOS gets widgets...my god will that enrage me! It's expected to be released in iOS5, but what annoys me more is the fact that Android has been doing widgets for a LONG TIME, since the beginning. And yet, as soon as Apple brings out "widgets" they'll be a whole frenzy of "OMG - iOS WIDGETS. IT'S SOOO GOOD!!!!" -_-
If you turned the tables round and Android had "copied" widgets (or something equivalent) from Apple (say they had been doing it, since the beginning), Apple would simply slap one great, big, whopping, huge, gigantic lawsuit on Google.

In all honesty, I suppose Apple simply exploit a really good business strategy, but other manufacturers/brands do amazingly well without being a "douche-bag-like" as Apple are. In human terms it's like a really popular kid, in secondary school, who does all the sports, gets all the top grades....but when you actually look at him, you realise that he is SUCH a HUGE arrogant d***-head! Okay weird analogy I know, but that's the only way I could explain it + I've got one of them in my class.

Yeah...sorry about the rant, but I have valid reasons for my dislike of Apple (which recently I've been feeling the need to share! :p :p :p)

LOL you do know that apple is the one who invented widgets, right? They've had them in osX for years and then windows tried copying it with "gadgets." Apple didnt put them on the iPhone bc they believed (and I don't agree) that they used too much of the systems resources and hindered the user xp. But if anyone should be "suing" it should be Apple suing Google. These are just the facts my friend.

okay....fail by me there.

But Google were still the ones who ported them over, successfully, to mobile technology and they're the ones responsible for really developing widgets and bringing/innovating them to the forefront on Android devices and probably iOS devices. (Although we'll have to wait till Monday for that) Furthermore, widgets don't hinder user experience, at least on the top end devices, which for Apple wouldn't be a problem because widgets would only be on the iPhone, iPad and iTouch which I pretty much sure, could all handle widgets pretty damn easily. I'm in shock though, at the fact Apple haven't sued Google yet...maybe they're saving the lawsuit till 2012?

There is not doubt that the iPhone does feel like a more expensively made object than the SGS2 but does that actually mean it's better? I doubt it.

I have seen loads and loads of iPhones with broken screens so the high quality manufacturing clearly hasn't protected those phones from the most likely source of damage ie being dropped. That being the case, I don't want to pay extra for something heavier (and it is noticeably heavier) that makes little difference in practice.

There is a phrase widely used in England, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating". If the phone doesn't fall apart, it's well enough made. Heavier, more expensive materials are a waste of money if they don't actually make any material difference (other than making the phone heavy).

amen.

i think back to all my previous phones i owned.....so many....all were plastic. a metal one comes out and all of a sudden plastic ones are crap and cheap!
OMG how did we survive this long!!?!?!

metal is rising in cost at a rapid rate.... pumping cash into a phones body over its brains does not leave me with confidence of a best seller.

the ultimate choice really isnt it....you want the beauty or the brains? :D

(lucky i have both LOL)
