My wife and I are new eris owners. These are our first smart phones so if you could help us out with some issues.

1. Oregon in now hands free and we dont want to wear earpieces. Can someone recomend a good in car bluetooth for the eris? We have the Motorola FM transmiter bluetooth for universal use but it does not really work that well. My wife has not been able to use hers yet. I am reluctant to take mine out of the box if they are not very good ones.

2. I read that video quality is much better on youtube if you press the menu button when the video starts and select HD. This procedure has not worked. I dont get a prompt when pressing the menu button.

3. Is there any way to send a message from the landscape view with keyboard? It seams you have to back out to do this with the lower left hand icon.

4. When ending a call the phone reacts really slowly. I am used to pressing end and immediately being notified call has ended. With the eris, I press end and nothing happens for a second or two. So I figure I missed the button and repress it. This redials the person and it continues like this until I exersize some patients.

5. With the seven home screens, is there any way to select what you want displayed on a screen if it had a default widget there already? For instance, say I want to move the email widget from one to the left of home to two to the left of home. Also, while trying to add people or favorites to the first screen to the right of home the boarders on that widget disapeared. Now its just a background and people faces.

6. Peoples contact faces in thumbnail size are much blurier than when the camera shoots them.

7. Switching from screen to screen, backing up, etc. seems slow.
8. How do you pop up a browser to select "home" when online. When I go back online after viewing something it takes me to the last visited site as opposed to google home. Is there away to select home from any website? I really just need a browser bar.

I think thats it. Also, my phone battery is only awake for 13-20% of the time. I heard alot of reports saying people are around 50-70% awake? Did I get lucky or do I just not use it enough?

Thanks in advance to all of you that are getting this phone figured out. Its going to be a popular one for a long time with the number that verizon is selling.

First, welcome to the forum.

1 - I use a few different bluetooth devices. The one that I like the best is the Motorolla T505. This may be the one you are already talking about though, it does have an FM transmitter. You don't have to use it through the radio however and I find that works equally well either way. If you aren't going to use it via the radio (great for music) at all then you may want to look at the T305. It works equally well and is cheaper ($39 @ Wal-mart). Another option that I used to use and loved (stolen from my car ) was the BlueAnt Supertooth.

2 - The Youtube app has some problems for some people. While mine has never really had a problem, others are saying they can't use it at all or that they have to click on the video several times to get it playing. If you are watching a video you should be able to click the menu and then the more button. A small option for search, homepage and watch in high quality should come up.

3 - In some apps you can just hit the enter button, but I don't believe this works for sms.

4 - Patience is a virtue. ;) I agree it is annoying, but it is just how the phone works right now. It may or may not change with future updates.

5 - To remove a widget or icon simply long press on it until you feel the little vibration and drag it to the trashcan at the bottom of the screen. To add widgets hit the little plus sign or long press anywhere on the screen. You will get a menu of widgets to add.

6 - This happens sometimes when resizing images.

7 - If you are getting a lot of lag, you may want to read through some of the stuff in the forum about it. Some of it can be avoided and some of it can't. One of the big ones that I have found is to use the back button when exiting apps instead of the home button. App managers/ app killers are another popular option.

8 - If you find out, let me know. I have not seen a home button either. :D

9ish - I think you just aren't using it enough. ;)

Thanks to everyone for the quick replys. I need to ask for some clarifications.
1. We do have the T505 but I had a couple questions about it. If we are listening to music and a call comes in the stereo will not mute. This may not be a function of this controler however I will be fumbling big time without this feature. If I want to hear the call over the speakers and I am listening to music do I need to have the station preselected and switch over to it? Can the phone be in your pocket without an issue when answering and calling with bluetooth? Voice dial on the Eris SUCKS for me. So can I use the bluetooth to voice dial or is this a total loss? When an incoming call comes over the bluetooth is there any way to have it tell me the name of the caller as opposed to the number. I dont have any recolection what my contacts numbers are, just there names.

2. I am not sure if I have a youtube app. I will google search a video and when it pops up a list I select the video and it asks me if I would like to open with youtube or browser. If I select youtube the video wont open, if I select browser it will open another page with the thumbnail. I select the thumbnail (i tried to hit menu here and its a generic menue for the phone) and the screen goes to full screen black with youtube logo ( I try the menu key here and nothing happens) when the video starts playing, I try the menu key again...nothing opens at this state either.

You guys rock and thanks for the help.

I have not run into an issue with music not muting on incoming calls. I have an aux input on my radio so I tend to use that for music over the bluetooth. The times that I have used it (rental car or my girl's car) I haven't run into any mute problems. The music always mutes when a call comes in. You should be able to answer a phone call via the T505 by just pressing the button on the unit. Voicedial via bluetooth does not work for Android devices however. I don't know of any way to get an address book on the T505 so that it will recognize the contact name over the phone number. It is one of the issues I actually do have with the T505. The BlueAnt I had would actually display the callers name.

You should have a youtube app on the phone. You can use this to search for videos and watch them. If you do run into a video that won't play retry it a couple of times. This has worked for a bunch of people. From what you are saying the player is not working at all. Are you using any type of task killer on your phone? Some people have had problems with task killers killing off the ability to run certain apps.

The caller ID works on my T505 but it just mutes the music and says "call from (phone number)" then plays a little ring until you push the phone button on the T505 or the answer button on the phone.

Right, that does work. I think he is trying to get, "Call from Tyler Durden" instead of, "Call from 555-3476" which the T505 can't do.

Your right, I was trying to get the device to say the name as opposed to the number.

Are you guys playing the radio when the T505 mutes the station for the incoming call?

Say I am listening to 94.1 fm and I get a call. My T505 is set for a blank station like 88.3. You guys are saying that it sould mute the radio and scroll to 88.3 automatically playing the call over the speakers in the car?

Finally, does everying pull out there phone fish around for a number or contact name and then press call on the phone before activating the bluetooth?

If this is the case it might be nicer to have a hardwired display that has your phone book in it. Its actually more to do than just call someone normally...

ya know

Ok, I misunderstood your question about muting. I thought you were talking about muting music playing on the phone through the T505. No, if you are listening to the radio then it will not mute the music. I usually have the last preset on the radio as my T505 station (whatever it recommends) and then just hit the preset button when a call comes in.

I usually have my phone on a mount in my car, GPS mount type thing like this one

I also have the bluetooth on and then just press and hold the send button to bring up voice dial (it can hear me from about 2 feet away) or I just use the people widget to call one of my favorites.

There are devices that will store a phonebook and you can just scroll to that number to dial from the bluetooth device. My Jabra earpiece does this, which I never understood because it is on my ear and I can't see my ear , but it does come in handy now.

Since you are forced by law to use bluetooth in your car, you may want to look into one of the installed options.

Parrot makes some of the pricier ones, but they do just about everything.

There are also cool rear view mirror devices that have phonebook and caller id built in. A friend of mine had one and it worked really well, don't remember the brand though.

I thought it was said earlier that android does not support voice dialing? I have not had it accurately voice dial yet for me.

Eris does support voice dialing, just not over bluetooth. Pressing and holding the send key will bring up the voice dial (or you can just open the app). I have noticed that it has a hard time with almost any sort of accent. My girl is Italian and she has an accent and the voice dial almost never works for her. I have 2 coworkers with Android phones, one is from Germany and the other was born and raised in southern Georgia. They both have accents and have trouble with voicedial. I was born and raised in Atlanta, but grew up with people from all over and developed no accent what so ever and it works great for me.

I've got one of the bluetooth mirror devices, it works pretty well. On mine you have a choice of having the sound come out of the mirror's built-in speaker, or it can broadcast to be picked up by your radio. Mine also has an earbud headset that plugs into the end of the mirror and pulls it's charge from there. When you want to have a 'private' conversation you can use the earbud. At that point the mirror speaker and mike disables and everything goes through the little headset.

Google 'bluetooth mirror', there are no shortage of hits.

That sounds like the one my friend had. Does yours also have the caller ID built into the mirror?

Hit the menu button/key and there should be a send option there...simple enough.
