Please follow this link http://androidforums.com/huawei-ascend/348237-huawei-ascend-vs-lg-optimus-m-both-ver-2-3-a.html

(Sorry if I placed this in the wrong thread, but I wanted to know what LG Optimus users opinion about their phones)

ok, I was going to get ascend because I like the layout and screen then after some research - I found out that LG Optimus M is BETTER? Why? Because its 2.2 and huawei is 2.1 -_- so I'm like wtf? that's not even a good way to differentiate both because both can be rooted and flashed to 2.3 (ginger)

So, I am a statistic guy, spec guy, I do not buy just because it looks good or just because its cheap or expensive. I only pick what's worth getting

So with that said, what would a good choice be? Pros and Cons

It's Huawei ascend 2.3 vs LG optimus M 2.3 both rooted, both can be customized, flashed to CM7, overlocked , w/e - you guys can argue what to do in order for ascend to win or maybe LG to win or even include the price (49$ for ascend 99$ for lg)

I only have 6 days and 23 hours to return this phone if ascend wins - if LG wins, then so be it and I will keep this phone

The memory alone should be all you need. I have done many things to squeeze every MB I can out of my Optimus and still would like more. I could never deal with less.

Then there is the small headphone jack that either needs an adapter or headphone with the smaller connector. Just try to find a nice set with the small one.

Completely forgot about the smaller headphone jack. There is a reason why the optimus is priced higher. It is just better. Their community is bigger + more advanced than the optimus but that comes with time.

What have you guys done with your phones? did youguys rooted it? cm7? 2.3? cwm? ???

Ok few things in no particular order.

LG more ram
LG Faster stock clocked cpu
LG apparently has separate modem cpu and graphics cpu which helps keep the main cpu for your use.
Headphone connector is industry standard no hunting headphones or adapter.
Larger internal memory, I think. the LG has 201mb of user useable space I am unsure of the ascend.
I have never held the ascend so I am unable to determine how it feels, weight and solidness but the optimus feels just right I just got a galaxy prevail for boost mobile and that has the same size screen but its a lighter phone and seems smaller overall and it just isnt as comfortable. That could be a factor for many as well.

Now as to roms Optimus that came with 2.2.1 stock can not use the overclock for 2.2 nor can they use the roms designed only for 2.2 the good news though is there are 2.2.1 roms and now and overclock though its still buggy its in beta.
I use the teamchickeneater rom which was one of the first put out for this phone and it is very nice.
I tried the cm7 2.3 rom and it works, mostly but it is very much in beta several things are being worked on as we speak when it gets done it will be awesome. I also used the overclock and found it to need work but it was nice my cpu would run up to 806mhz and everything I tried worked flawlessly, I did not try angry birds I dont have it on my phone anymore I kinda got tired of it.

I am rooted, but never have felt a need to try another ROM yet. I figure if I come across something that I want to do and cannot because of the ROM, then I might try it. So far, I am really happy with the phone stock with much of the bloat removed. I did switch to the Launcher Pro for a while and really liked it, but tended to hang a few times a day due to my under-clocking when the phone is idle. I just switched to Go Launcher yesterday and I think I am sold! It is really nice to go for more screens than 7. I now have 11. I was tending to get rid of my widgets due to lack of real estate for my organizing, but that is now solved with this launcher.

I am a fan of simple and stream lined, I have 6 widgets, well not really widgets, camera, contacts, and messages you get the idea on the main screen and 6 more plus the weather widget on the left side screen then power control and music player on the right side screen, all other screens blank.
I have the gingerbread vanilla launcher very basic. I would expect all those widgets would slow down the phone and use some battery, though that is not why I like simple, just appeals to me.

It is not necessarily a lot, just big. I have a whole page with a stretched Weather Bug radar map (a very useful thing living in FL). Then I also have my calendar widget taking a whole page as well. I total I have seven and one of those is just a clock. I like more pages because I like to organize by type of app and not have to go to the drawer. I have pages such as games, gps, financial, music/video, quick dial contacts. etc. It makes using the phone faster to me. The accountant in me likes the organization.

Me too. lol I like apps sorted by which do similar things, however I have so few going it is easier to put them on one screen, in order of course. lol

I am in jax, though I have only been here for.. oh wow its getting close to a yr now. Aug will be a year.

I have had the ascend nd had 2.3 nd fully pushed tht phone to its limits nd it was nice nd all but still had a little bit lag, reason I switched was the headphone problem it being smaller size, now I have optimus rooted, even at 600 mhz its smoother then the ascend overclocked at 710 nd its just a nicer phone, only thing I miss on the ascend is the trackball and screen size I could feel the difference, as for now Im happy, patiently waiting for a more secure cm7 to come out before I flash to a different rom.

new optimus... I'm in Jax as well. I just got the phone a couple of weeks ago and love it. I haven't done a thing to mine yet other than down load a few apps to suit me (financial, music, office ect..) we should grab a coffee one day or something and maybe you can explain this whole root, rom and what ever else you can do to these things to me.

That would be cool, im southside off Merrill rd.
Also rooting it isnt too hard, putting the custom recovery on isnt too bad either, and once that is done flashing a rom is as simple as putting it on your sd card and going through the menu.

Haha... easier said than done. Honestly it's probably because I'm just too lazy to read a page of stuff on rooting the phone. Plus as mentioned earlier, I have not heard a convincing argument for me to have to root... I guess I'm satisfied with the phone as is.

It's a small world. I'm in Arlington as well... living on Ft. Caroline close to where it runs into Merrill.

Near the advanced auto I take it.
There is no need to root if your happy with it as is. With the pathetic 1x download speed using wireless tether is almost out of the question and though there are other apps that require root access not everyone uses them.

Though getting rid of the bloatware was a main goal for me to root. The phone battery lasts longer and the phone seems to respond quicker.

Also it isnt like it used to be, there is a one click root option now. you download the app to your phone click it and done.

I have both the ascend and the optimus...with that said Optimus is the way to go I have not been able to overclock the optimus but i am running 2.3.3 vs the stock 2.2.1 witch i think is much faster and smoother. Simply get a bigger sd card other than 2g and wait for and overclocking ROM. also try adding your apps to sd and you will enjoy your Optimus.
