Do I have to add a data plan to the new line to buy the Atrix?

I opened up another line, and converged the two into the family plan. I bought a $15 go phone for the new "dummy line" and they let me upgrade my line to the Atrix with no questions asked. so basically I opened up a second line (ported business line) with no data or text, etc, cancelled comcast saving me a lot of money a month, and got the Atrix for my personal line.

I got the Atrix for $175, brought in an amazon printout of their $149 pricing and she said she couldn't match but gave me 25 off the phone.

there is ALWAYS a way around the system. they even said it in the store, but did not seem to care

So to make this simple for me:
1) Ask to open new line.
2) Buy cheapest phone available or even free phone.
3) Buy Atrix for subsidized price.

Is that correct?

You won't get a" free" phone unless you use your subsidy on that which I know you know you don't want to do.
1. Add a line
2. Buy Atrix on Subsidy with that line.
3. Buy a Go Phone and put the sim from the new line in there and put your sim in the Atrix
4. Cancel data on the new line (Rep may do this for you if you explain what you are trying to do)
4. Realize you are paying 10 more a month for 2 years by adding a dummy line but it still may be cheaper ( $200 Phone + $240 Fees + $15 Go Phone < $499 Retail ).

yes tell them what you want to do. open a BASIC 2nd line. buy a go phone(in store) for 14.99, they put the new sim in that, and ask to use the upgrade for your line. it is very easy ;)

they gave me no problems at all

^^^ didn't see he wrote that, but yes that is what I was trying to initially tell you, I told them what I was doing and they didn't require me to open a new data plan or anything like that. It was a pleasant process considering...

Free damn. I think the lesson of the day...never be an early adopter! I just wish the price of off contract would drop by the same amount as the one on contract :/

You said it Roze. Never buying something on day one. I went to bell and asked if I could get the difference paid out on my bill when I saw it was 99$ on their website and they said no. Whats the point of having something a few weeks earlier than everyone else if you're going to end up paying an extra 70$. To some it might be worth it, to me it really isn't.

Im also assuming this is the American pricing.

Actually, the price dropped to $69 2nd week in for a couple of days.

I guess I got lucky because when I heard it went on sale for $69 (as Roze said) I called Bell and got $100 applied to my account. Actually I only heard about the sale a little over 2 weeks after it ended and I didn't think they would do it but I called anyway and they gave it to me. The CSR even apologized saying that he knows it's frustrating when something you recently buy goes on sale.

I recommend calling again but it's been like a month since the sale ended so it might be harder.

first off new member been lurking for a few days you guys post some good stuff...anyway

ive seen people posting that they have bought the phone just recently for over 100 dollars and decided to sign up to let whoever know i got mine for 90 dollars and probably could of got it cheaper

i went to the att store about 2 weeks ago to find out about my corporate monthly discount (my employer offers one for att) and told them i was walking across the street to buy the phone at best buy since they had it for 99 dollars with a 2 year contract then the man stated he would price match it..i then also told him i had a 10 dollar gift cirtificate to best buy and was gonna use that so he called his boss and it was ok'd to give me the phone for 90 dollars (at this point i wish i had told him i had a gift card for more off) ..id give this a shot before you spend any more than 100 on the phone..besides best buy has had them for 99 dollars for awhile now good luck everyone

oh and also the guy at att threw in a free car charger (30 dollar value) and a otter case protector (50 dollar value) for free..i know the prices on those are ridiculous to begin with but they were free so i cant complain

They must have been desperate for sales, especially if it was just an upgrade. Don't mean to sound rude but I wouldn't get anyone elses hopes up in thinking they will walk into an AT&T store and get that type of deal all the time.
