Over at HF the great wnrussel posted this

Targa drops two months after Droid 3. No LTE for D3. This one will be worth the wait.

Motorola's new Droid Bionic (Targa) pre-release thread - Page 27

So seems like forever but SO glad to get at least some info!

also p3 just tweeted this about the D3
"The Droid3 is on its way. It's is way with dual core omap and. Testers are running 2.3.3 I'm expecting it in next 4 to 8 weeks."
"And I hear it is running circles around he dx2"

So this is strong evidence that the bionic will probably have the same soc or better and it looks like the OMAP dual core is way faster then the Tegra2 so this wait might actually be worth it

too late... i already got my Samsung Charge :(

Just do what I did when I got my OG Droid. I found out about the Incredible right after I bought the Droid, so I returned the Droid after 29 days (they waived the re-stocking fee because I bitched and moaned) and used my old LG Envy for a month while I waited for the Incredible to release.

Granted, after having the Droid for a month, the month back on the Envy was the most painful month of my life, but it was totally worth it. I love my Incredible.

Return period is 14 days now, as far as I know...unless you get from Costco, where you can exchange up to 90 days after, for another phone.

Until Motorola is comfortable enough that the Droid X2 has helped to bleed out the stock-pile of Droid X add-ons in their channels and the Tegra 2 chips, etc, you will not hear a peep from Motorola.

When the inventories are milked, THEN the floodgates will open.

Unless the Bionic is using an OMAP dual core, seems very doubtful for a Bionic release until late Q4 (at best). Quad core is too new and the cost/production curve would make it an overly expensive component option.

The Bionic is almost certainly dual core, if any chance before late fall, winter.

Careful, another member said he called up two CostCos and they both reported that you could only exchange for the SAME phone past the 14 day window...

Get something in writing, verbal promises mean NOTHING in a world run by written contracts.

My upgrade is not until May of 2012, but if this things beats the expected tiered data to market, I'll swallow hard and pay full price for it. If the tiered data arrives first then I'll ride my Droid X for awhile longer. Come on Droid Bionic!

If tiered data comes in they make you switch to one of the tiered plans whether you buy it full retail or not.

Yeah, it's in the contract/paperwork that came w/the phone, and confirmed w/the phone kiosk manager at the local costco.

The real "gotcha" is that you can only exchange for a phone that Costco has, and they don't get all the phones that you'll find in the VZW store.

I have the same to report. From what I was told you can exchange within the 90 days for any phone with the subsidized price. Also of note; as of current, they are selling all three LTE phones. Not exactly sure when they started selling the Thunderbolt and Revo, but they have them all.

Someone claiming to work for the company that runs the kiosks for Costco claimed that if you don't see the Android smartphone you want, they can order it for you (as long as Verizon carries it, of course). Interesting...I'm going to drop by my local Costco and ask about this.

Not true. If you're already on unlimited data (even if it's just 3G), and you buy and activate a 4G phone (full retail) AFTER tiered data comes and unlimited plans are phased out, you can activate the phone and retain your unlimited data plan (since you already had it).

Not always. They can make you switch to a current plan not saying they will but they can do that. Nobody knows how or when tiered will come in. I would hope they would grandfather those who have it or even wait until sept or something to go to tiered. If they released the bionic with unlimited 4g that could be a way to grab alot of customers from tmobile who may not want to risk getting stuck with at&t or even some from at&t and sprint.

I would love to know how you came to this conclusion because I might need you to start picking my stocks.

Truth in the matter is none of us know how Verizon will roll out the tiered plans. Best case scenario would be what you are suggesting. Worst case scenario would be any new 4g phone you get after they implement 4g would be subject to the new plans. In the middle would be getting grandfathered in if you already have a 4g phone. I am just hoping they give us a heads up or somehow the plans leak.

What's with the ridicule, guys?

I have asked two managers over the phone, had it put on my account that we discussed the terms of grandfathering, and then called back a different day to verify the note on my file was there with details of what I was told.

The point is that 4G and 3G unlimited CURRENTLY have the same feature code in their system, which is why it simply matters whether you're on an unlimited plan but NOT (currently) if it'd 4G or 3G.

I did not make this up. I too thought only 4G unlimited wouldnget grandfathered but it turns out I got it half right. All unlimited plans will be grandfathered, but I assume that's only if tiered plans also make no distinction between 3G and 4G.

I am not trying to ridicule you, I am just very skeptical. Just because they do not have a feature code right now doesn't mean they will not in the future. Also, retail or commercial managers really don't have a clue. I would love for you to be correct, but I am not willing to take the chance. The best bet to ensure you will have unlimited 4g until your next contract or upgrade is to get it before they change to the tiered program.
