Anyone else getting the new B&N Nook (Touch)?

I just got the last nook for my girlfriend. I can say it's a good thing they got rid of the stupid color LCD thing on the bottom. Nothing but a waste of battery.

I might get this one for myself. Every time I try and read she always wants it back! Wish digital copies of books were a bit cheaper though.

Me too! I'm disappointed that the B&N membership discount doesn't apply to Nook Books. Doesn't make sense to me really.

I considered picking up a Nook. However, with a 4.3 inch screen on my phone, the font comes out just fine for my use. I might consider getting something just for reading if that flexible screen tech ever takes off. I just can't justify another device for such things when the phone works fine.

I think you're going to be waiting a very long time. lol It'll take time for companies to adopt it, take time for companies to actually make relevant devices, and take time for the price to become reasonable as a simple e-reader.

I'm not really even sure where the flexible screen would be useful other than a protective measure against breakage.

Heh, yeah. It is quite simply not anywhere near ready for prime time. That's all right though. I enjoy paper books primarily anywho. I buy the digital ones to read on the phone for both portability and to support my favorite authors.

I'm not saying if something like the Nook came in significantly under $100 that I wouldn't buy it, I just don't see it happening. Ah, well

Woohoo! New Nook just arrived and now can get the books off my wishlist. I'm really liking it so far. It's quite a bit lighter than I had first anticipated and it feels great in the hand with the indent in the back. That was a really good decision.

Bought the wifi one. Cheaper to use the Nook for recipes in the kitchen rather than the Galaxy S 4G. Easier to read, too and it holds a charge longer.
Also found a whole lot of older free Science Fiction.

Gotta give B&N credit- mine had a defective battery, and the local B&N went to replace it. He said he broke the top cover (didn't look like it - just unsnapped) and gave me another brand new one.

Just bought a really nice faux leather case for my Nook. The Nook is definitely one of my best purchases the last few months. I was debating between it or the Kobo but the Nook just has the support behind it, especially since there are B&N everywhere.

I love the nookcolor. After rooting it and turning it into a full tablet plus still having access to all the original nook stuff it cant be beat for the money

Do you notice any difference regarding eye strain when reading from the Nook or from your phone? I'm (double digit) years older than you, and I'm sure that makes a difference, but I can't read books on my phone as long as I can paper books - my eyes just get too tired. I've been wondering if something designed as a reader would be better.

Well i admit i primarily do all of my reading on my incredible (amoled) I use aldiko with black background white text with a nice sized font. The nook being bigger allows me to use bigger font which is nice. I generally have NO problems reading the night away (if its a better series than the one i'm on now)
I will saw though that my girl has got a Kindle and apart from having to have an external light source to read with it is simply UNMATCHED!! The E-ink displays are the absolute BEST for reading

I'd wondered about the Kindle/E-ink, though I'm not wild having having to have a light on to read (It's not uncommon for me to wake up and read for a while at 3am, my wife likes that I don't have to turn on a light to do that). Part of what I want is tablet functions, not JUST a reader.

What are you reading now, that I should avoid?

Any tablet would work for then though the nookcolor is the best for the money (i too hate having to have a light for the kindle)

Lord of the Isles by David Drake not a bad story but not a great one either. Its a 6 book followed by a trilogy (im on book 5, have been for over 2 weeks and thats a first for me)

I aggree with NA for a portion of it. imo if someone is going to buy a tough I-reader they should just go for a tablet that can do so much more

I have to agree concerning the e-ink screen (now e-ink pearl standard) to be the best for e-readers. I keep getting the feeling that I'm not looking at a screen at all. It just doesn't feel like a screen yet it senses every touch and tap. This in turn makes it feel like you're reading an actual book and there's no eye-strain.

After using the new Nook for a short while now... there really is no need for a physical keyboard. It just uses up space and makes the device unnecessarily longer. I was a bit surprised on how fast it actually registers my touches for typing in words. I knew that there was lag but it the keyboard is really good and no need to wait for each input to be registered. I love how the device is incredibly lightweight and so easy to hold for long periods of time.

I'm happy that I wont have to worry about bending the binding of books and dealing with having to use two hands to keep a book open. I really like the feeling of sitting on the couch or on bed next to a lamp and reading away. Old fashioned.

Something that publishers really need to understand: Match prices with booksellers. Song of Fire and Ice 4 book set on sale at B&N for $20 but Nook Book is still $36?

That is why I am glad that I am a fan of mostly older works. Pretty much most of what I want to read is available free at Project Gutenberg. I also use the Nook Color rooted and running Phiremod. I am using the Moon Reader app set to nighttime which gives me a black background and grey text. It is not hard on the eyes at all and since I read in bed a lot it is nice not to have to have a light on while my wife is sleeping.

I do not for the life of me understand why they charge the prices that they do for ebooks. I would never pay anywhere near retail book price for an ebook. I would never pay more than a few bucks to be honest. Then again I collect small press editions of the authors I enjoy and buy them whether or not I will end up reading them or just finding e-copies to do the actual reading on. For example I recently bought the Bloodletting Press edition of The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen limited to 200 copies but I am reading the stories on my NC.
